WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Gday all, myself and my wife are considering the move to Oz from sunny Manchester Uk. Our main consideration is, are we going to actually get a better standard of life, eg a better house for the money, a more relaxed life, more time at home, and a better place for our son to grow up? Any information good or bad, we are considering Perth and Adelaide. Matt
Hi! Matt!
I'm Wendy, and me and my family are off to Melbourne in June 08. Well, you wanted to know if life would be better in Oz. Are you kidding me :?: :!: :!: :!: :? Everything is better in Oz! The weather is a major factor for us, the outdoor lifestyle, better and safer for your children, better for your own health etc etc.
If you want to know what your money can buy in Oz just visit www.realestate.com.au or for general issues about Perth, go on the poms in perth website. Visit this site regularly and you'll be amazed how many people will ask the same questions as you wanted to ask and about how friendly other members are. :D
Anyway, Happy New Year to you and your family,
Wendy, Steve, Hollie, and Lauren

p.s where in Manchester are you?
Hi Matt
The people we have spoken to say the cost of living is about the same yes you may get more for your money in the housing market but house prices have gone up so much that you may struggle to afford one. {I hope thats not true** we were hoping to have little motgage not sure how realistic that is now.
The fact you have the beautiful weather, outdoor lifestyle and the beaches is the pulling point for us. For the kids who are very keen on doing their sports and the facilities it offers is another plus. I think the best thing to do is not go with ''rose tinted glasses'' as I keep hearing people say.
All we can do is treat it as an adventure and have as much fun as possible doing it. I know we will. :D

we've ended up with a mortgage the same size as our UK one which wasn't what we came for! However, hubby is earning the same as he did on the UK for a lot less hours. He's home each day by 4pm (2pm on a Friday) and no longer works weekends. There are also a load of things to do here for free - you don't even have to pay for parking !! So we all definitely enjoy life more.
When people start the migration journey, they do so for a better life, and its not often that money comes into the initial thought.
So if you consider that you can make a living here, then the reasons for moving must be more than money.
When I emigrated 10 years ago (I strated the process 15 years ago, but stayed in the UK for job reasons!!!!, which I would have done differently because I missed out on 5 years of the lifestyle I now enjoy) I did so for the lifestyle - boy haw glad I am that I did.
So, what do my days look like and how do they compare to the UK. This holiday season i took my kids to the beach, drive in, driving the 4 wheel drive on the dunes near Perth - I asked them what they remembered abut Xmas and New Year - driving the 4 WD.
So if life is about creating the environment to enjoy onesself and with the opportunity to do well. Yes house prices have gone up, but we are still a young country with HUGE prospects near Asia and India. Its akin to teh States when it was growing.
is it easy - sometimes not - missing family etc. Do you feel guilty leaving parents behind etc - possible. Is it worth it - yes for me because of the smiles on my childrens faces when they are outside all day, if they want to be.
Would I do it again - absolutely - Wardy is right - its an exciting journey
Wishing you all a prosperous and peaceful new year (oh and also a visa grant :) )

Hi all, thanks for your replies in relation to my obvious question. It was great to hear from people who are in similar situations to ourselves. Well the forms are here and we are trying to make sense of them. Here goes, thanks again matt
hiya,
just thought I'd say hello -
we are a family in Westhoughton near Bolton, just starting the process. Hoping to go on 136 PR visa, MODL. We are dual British/South African.... but really need a few good doses of sun and space!! Will miss Lancashire people, but can't wait to arrive Down Under. Will probably head for Regional Vic or South Oz.
Hope your applications are going well!
It's blowing a gale outside at the moment, with rain bouncing off my windows. Roll on June 2008.
Its days like today that you realise why you want to put yourself through this - just lost another fence panel - that will be the 5th in the last 4 months.
