      Hi Emily,

Gold Coast is good for Hotel/Restaurant and theme park industry. Unfortunately it is winter at the moment so I would presume would be a bit quieter for jobs. We live near Coolangatta and all the 'Youngsters' go on night outs there and its also close to Surfers Paradise. Hope this helps. Good luck.

      Hi Emily

We've been in Perth for 8 weeks now so its all still very new to us. My twins turned 21 last Sunday

Matt was a trainee mechanic in the UK and found a job here within a week! His plan was to hop on the bus and take his CV into all the garages in the area we planned to live in til he found something....first place he went into hadn't got any vacancies but knew someone who did. The garage bloke rang his mate (we've found that Aussie folk are really helpful and welcoming!) sent my boy along and BINGO
Beth did bar work in the UK and got a job within 10 days but really wanted to work in childcare. She structured her CV to make the most of the limited experience she'd had back in the UK and emailed childcare centre's asking if they had any vacancies. She was offered a full time position at her first interview!

They are both really happy with their jobs and earning much more than they were back home.

My 23 year old daughter flew in on Monday. She has been offered a job working for the company she was working for in the UK although she too hopes to work in a different field here in Perth. Her main concern was making new friends as soon as possible as she's a bit of a party animal
She scouted Facebook for girls about her age who live in Perth and messaged someone she liked the look of. As I'm writing I'm thinking that as a mum I'd have to say use common sense with this tho....from both sides!!!!!!
Anyway they exchanged a couple of emails and generally checked each other out and as my girls are planning a night out as is the girl and her mates, to the same part of the city have made loose plans to meet up in a well known night spot. She also plans to join up here like yourself and hopefully meet more people.
The twins also hooked up via FB with a lad they knew who had moved to Perth when they were all in yr 5 together. It would be a good idea to find out from your parents whereabouts they plan to live so you can start putting out some feelers.... maybe you've got some long lost school mates too!

My kids are lucky as there's a few of them lol but you sound friendly so I'm sure you'll have no trouble meeting people. There really are so many more opportunities here than in the UK at the moment.

If you're coming this way give us a shout!

Wow you were lucky to get a visa with your family at that age - are you sure you can enter alone before the visa holder though (which I assume is one of your parents?) - often you cant and the visa holder must come first or at the same time as all others who are coming with them.

At your age, you could do what the WHV holders do and just move about and sample everywhere for a while before you decide where you want to. The Gumtree is a good place to start http://sydney.gumtree.com.au/ - this is the Sydney page but there are links to everywhere and will give you an idea of casual work, accommodation etc

Thank you so much for all your replies!! It has made me even more excieted about coming to OZ.
We lodged November 2008 then they took carpenters off the most wanted list. We were told by our agent not to expect any news until December 2012!!
Then all of a sudden we were assigned a case officer, who asked us to have our police checks and medicals and within 3 weeks our VISAS were granted, which is even more miraculous due to the fact that the email from the case officer was forwarded from our agent to an old email adderess.
My dad is a carpenter and hes thinking more of the Melbourne area, providing there is plenty of work there. We have the skilled migrant 175 VISA. My mum is usure about coming as she loves her job but me and my dad have convinced her that she will find friends and find a job out in OZ that she will love just as much.
I would like to work on a farm or with animals i do have experience with many different animals from gerbils and chinchillas to sheep and horses!
I also have a dog who i do agility with here in the UK but dont know if there is such a thing in OZ.

      Thank you all again,

      Emily xx

      Hi Emily,

      Exciting times hey?
I have been living in Australia for 3 and a half years now and love it over here!! I know of a good website for jobs, peterpans.com.au/gold

You pay a small membership fee to join , but it gives you access to all of the jobs on their database. You also get dicounted travel (good for seeing this fab country), discounted tex returns (as its compulsory to do a tax return here at the end of every tax year), Free internet in all of their shops. I think they have a new online onlt membership too, that just gives you access to the jobs, for a lower price.

I know people have already mentioned these, but gumtree and seek are also good websites for job hunting.

As you are just 20, I would reccommend hitting the backpacker circuit, and see some of the country before you settle. Its a great experience and as good way to meet people too.

I found that the best way to meet people in your community once you settle, is to join a community group, such as Scouts, Guides, sports teams and other volunteer organisations. This has really helped me to become part of my local community.

Good luck with your move over here and just message me ifyou want to ask me any more questions. Happy to help!

Hi Emily, My brother in Law lives in Perth and he came over here 5 years ago, he loves it there and wouldnt move but he came over with his trade as a carpenter and has not managed to get a job doing that yet! He has always had a job just not joinery, he says there is not much call for joiners in Perth? but I dont know because I dont live there. We had a friend who moved to Adelaide 6 years ago and he was joiner too and he got a job straight away and is still doing it. Good Luck.
