      G'day everyone!

Hey guys, have been lurking around these forums for a few weeks now and have finally got myself on a computer that has allowed me to register!

Thought I'd let you all know a little bit about myself as I should think I'll be sticking around for a while! So I'm Jess, I'm 23 years old and myself and my (Australian) hubby live in London at the minute with our 7 month old dog. She's a Siberian Husky/Labrador called Roo, you guessed it, when we first got her she was the exact colour of a big Red! At the minute, I'm working the MOST boring job as a bit of a stopgap until I was due to start in the British Army as a musician. However with the budget cuts, it looks like the music "department" is not going to be the same as what it was, and now there is no spot available for me to enter into :( Bad times. I also thought I'd serve in my own Country's army, and to be honest it's heartbreaking seeing the cutbacks being made, we have friends who have already been put out of a job in the forces, and I guess I should count myself lucky that I found out now before going through training/quitting my job/uprooting ourselves etc.

With this in mind, it has made me and OH think more seriously about a move to Australia in the coming years, as we were planning to go eventually anyway as a transfer between forces. So instead of planning to leave in 5/6/7+ years, we're now planning for around a years time! I just can't wait around in England for the possibility of my career becoming available again with us both miserable and not able to further our careers. Hubby is in the Army here currently, but even in his regiment, there are going to be job cuts that could ultimately affect him too. The frustrating bit at the minute is the fact that we don't have a clue what's going to happen so instead of sitting in limbo, he's going to get out before he's forced out. Also the Australian Army seem to look after their guys and girls better than here, in terms of pay and accommodation and things.

This is a massive decision for us as I always saw us having our children here, getting on the property ladder here first and then moving over, but this way makes so much more sense to us as we have little ties financially here and no children yet and can start from scratch as it were. We're hoping to move to Sydney, with myself on a spouse visa.
Sydney, although expensive seemed the obvious choice for us, as OH is a trumpet player and is more likely to find gigs there, and the company I work for now have an office in Sydney so could effectively transfer down once everything is sorted. The in-laws are all around Brisbane/Sunshine Coast kinda way so not too far for some long weekends either.

So that's our story, I hope I haven't bored you or come across as too formal and hopefully will cross paths with you all on here! *Waves*

      Hi Jess,

Good luck with the planning, and eventual move! We moved from London to Sydney about a year ago and are very happy with our move. We moved with children but from what I've seen the support network for first time mums in Aus is very good. I think you'll find having children here will help you make friends and you'll feel at home in no time!

      All the best.
