All you chippies out there- confused with the roof!!!

Been practising today pitching a roof on a piece of ply( it's been a few years) no problem if I'm given the degree- I have an app that you punch in the width, length and degree and it gives you Everything, all your cuts, lengths etc.

A few people have said you get the degree, some say only the height!

I'm screwed if they only give me the height!!!

What is the simplest method, it can't be as hard as I'm making it!

If I brought a ready Rekoner would this give me everything I need to pitch the roof or are they not as good as what people make out.

Got my practical in 3 weeks and the roof is getting me down- can anyone help??

Hi, don't worry about the roof if they only give you the height (they gave me 30 degree pitch only) draw it on the sheet of ply to get true length of common rafter. Draw half span then the height (rise) at right angles then join together to form a triangle, this will give you the true length where you cut the birds mouth 2/3rds down from top of the rafter. I could send you a easy way but you need a scientific calc. (Asda/tesco/staples £5). I used the Goss's Ready Roof Reckoner (Amazon) at Accrington Feb 09 and it was easy to follow and gave you all the angles for the hips, jacks and common rafters.
Good luck, if you need anything else such as a drawing for the saw horse PM me.
      Good luck again.
      Wayne
