short term accom in or around melbourne

      Hi Guys and Gals,
never used site b4 so hope i get this right. myself and hubby moving over to Melbourne in 5 weeks, we need temp furnished accomodation, been looking on a few sites but everything seems soo expensive.

We dont have jobs to go too but are confident that we will get jobs soon after arrival. so our main concern is getting short term let for approx 4 weeks, cant see much below $550 a week, looking for cheap and cheerful as hoping to keep money for where we are eventually going to settle (not sure were that is yet).

No job and no accomodation at the minute but the strange thing is im not stressed out about it think i may be chilling even b4 we are in melbourne, so its all good i guessx p.s. my hubby is a plumber and i am retail manager

You will be hard pushed to find anything below $500 for furnished rentals.

Most places are more like 600-700 p.w. Even big4 holiday camps and alike are much more expensive.

Have you looked on Kates site : Moving to Melbourne Meet & Greet,Furnished Rentals,Airport Pickup Relocation Assistance

That will give you a good idea of what is available and where.

Our place is on there as well which is one of the cheapest, but we are about 1 hr from the CBD.

Otherwise you can try www.gumtree.com.au they sometimes have accomodation on offer.

hi there, we stayed at a place in mornington - which is 60 km from the city. we found it on stayz.co.au it was could the 'sea breeze' we got a discount for staying 4 weeks and paid around 600 per week. We were careful not to book at school hols as it is more expensive. this was a largish 1 room studio. it had 2 bunk beds, 1 queen which was very comfortable, and a pull out couch. It also had a 52 inch tv and limited foxtel. It was a 5 min walk to the beach and 15 mins to the town which had every shop you could ever need and endless cafes etc. I am sure if you google it, it will come up. try - sea breeze mornington.

      Hi and welcome to PIO.
As Paul has mentioned short term furnished rentals are usually quite expensive that is why you are best not booking longer than 4 weeks. I have just been looking for some clients of mine as all our accommodation was booked up for their dates and it was coming back with ridiculous prices from $150 per night. Even the Big 4 was $186 per night for a cabin (not the cabins that we know in the UK but more of a portable building, some refer to them as looking like a shed or garage).
There are a couple of places that you can rent for under $550 per week (as Paul says we have a couple on our website) but they tend to get booked up quite quickly.
      Good luck
      Kate
