I hope none of our members are affected with the fire in the ranges. I don't think it will affect you Paul (Furkew). Let's hope this rain helps to get it under control.
Keep safe

Hi Kate.
Thanks for thinking about us
It was just down the road (this side of Emerald) and although we couldnt see the smoke, friends over the other side of the hill could. It was probably about 10k's from here.
We did get quite a few CFA trucks fly past with sirens wailing, and a couple of heli's fly over. We where actually a bit worried when we saw that there was a fire in Belgrave & Mount Evelyn. Luckily they both dissapeard off the CFA site pretty quickly so they were either false alarms or nothing serious enough to worry about.
The wind has been very strong all day, and when the rain hit us we had 15mm in 15 minutes.
That solved the problem fairly quickly because we had 5 CFA trucks come past about half an hour later coming back from the fire.
Chat soon
Paul.
I was working up there today, smelt the smoke, heck where's that coming from...... but thankfully all okay, gee we live in fear of some idiot firebug lighting up the Dandenong Ranges.
I saw this post and panicked my longtime friend lives in Emerald! She phoned me and said that she is allowed back to her house (she was in Doncaster when the fire broke) and was packing suitcases just incase. It has scared her; she kept going on about all her photos and that all she had was what she was standing in!
When its that close to your house I suppose it does make you realise what is going on.
TBH as much as i love her I thought she would have had bags ready living where she does!!!
Prepare Act Survive and i am sticking to it!!
47SV Special Migrant Former Resident Visa Applied 15.9.08 Granted 10.3.09
Arrived 19.9.09 Lovin' it!!
They keep saying that they are going to go up pretty soon, it's quite dry up there and boy when it goes it could be a total disaster. Can you remember last year Paul when there were kids starting the fires thankfully none of them took hold.

Hi Tracey
Emerald is a beautiful place and I can see why you are wanting to move there.
In regards to Bush Fires the largest one they had was quite a while ago, if I remember rightly it was in 1955 and burned 400 hectares.
On the 16th Feb 1983 we had the Ash Wednesday fires which affected parts of the Dandenong Ranges these areas were Cockatoo, Upper Beaconsfield and Belgrave Heights/South and were around 11 hectares.
The fire the other day was 4 hectares in size and they did get it under control.
No matter where you live you can be at risk, so you need to have a fire plan ready.

Ash Wednesday was a bit bigger and 75 people died.
In total over 185,000 hectares went up.
