Anyone still waiting for a 176 after a year?

I submitted my application on 15/05/08, police check 14/10/08, meds submitted 20/01/09 and still waiting. My migration agent doesn't reckon I will get my visa now until after 01/07/09 because of the immigration minister's statement on the halting of non urgent visas until the beginning of the Aussie financial year. I applied for a family sponsored 176 visa but my job isn't an urgently needed one so I am wondering if anyone else is in the same position. Most of the posters on here seem to have got their visas within a year. I still have no case officer and am feeling a bit left out.

Keep your chin up you will get the golden ticket soon. We had to wait 2 years to get ours and I know how frustrating it is when everyone around you is receiving theirs and you are still sat on the fence.
It will come, just make sure everything is ready so you can make the move when it arrives.

Hi,

I am from India (High Risk country) and lodged a relative sponsored 176 visa on 30 Jan '08. It's been 16 months now and I haven't received a case officer!! Some people are of the view that visa processing for this category will start again after over a year!! Does anyone have any information related to this?

I was also considering sending a request for victoria state sponsorship and had a couple of queries regarding the same.

If i dont have a skill in demand in victoria but I have family there what are my chances of getting state sponsorship?

If I do manage to get state sponsorship do I have to put in a separate visa application under 176 or just inform DIAC about a change in my sponsor?

Does a fresh visa application cancel out my earlier 176 application? I am just worried that if it does cancel out my earlier application I will be pushed to the end of the processing queue again!!

Please revert with any suggestions on what are the best options for me!!
