Moving on own to Melbourne?!!
Hi there, I'm new to this site...I'm thinking of moving to Oz and in particular Melbourne to work etc. I'm a midwife and am attending an interview on the 2nd March this year to discuss matters such as gaining professional registration etc. I know it can be a lengthy process...I've begun to get a little scared now always wanted to move but worried about being alone etc and setting up a new life. Does anyone have any advice for me, been through a similar experience etc?
Angie

Hi Angie
Welcome to PIO!!
The emotions you have at the minute are normal, we all feel very excited and nervous at the same time. My thoughts were that we only live once and if we don't go for it we will always live to regret it and wonder what if?
if I can help at all please feel free to pm even if it's just for a shoulder to lean on.
Good luck with everything.
Kate

Angie,
I am a Scot and an Aussie Permanent resident of Australia, been working back in the UK for too long now but am heading back "home" to Melbourne very soon.
And here is my take on Melbourne.
It is a fabulous , friendly big hearted place. It has everything you could ask for.
If you are an active outdoors type there's bush and mountain, if you are a surfer thewre's the sainted Bells Beach, if you more for the indoors there are the best bars restaurants and cafes in Oz. As well as opera, theatre, concerts and the best live music scene in the country.
Hell you can even go skiing in Victoria.
The people are for the most part grand sorts. There'll always be the odd bastard, but that is true of anywhere.
It is the best place I have ever lived... bar none.

Hi Angie, welcome to PIO, watch out this site is very addictive
I am also a Midwife moving to Melbourne, so far I have registered with the ANMC and am part way though a state sponsored 176 visa. I am happy to answer any questions you may have, if I can.
Best wishes, Claire

Angie,
I'm in the same boat as I'll be making the trip myself. Have been thinking of the moment I arrive, stepping off the plane and thinking 'what now???'. I've been planning this for so long I'm not sure how I'll be once it's all over and I'm standing there!! Got all the usual fears about being isolated etc but I'm going to make sure I get out to meet people straight away (thats the plan anyway!). The good thing you will have is a job. It should help you get settled really quickly
Best of luck
