We are moving to Melbourne area within the next 12 months, but can't agree on where we want to live so I'd really like to hear opinions on these areas. We have a 4 year old and 2 year old and can afford to privately educate them if need be and our housing budget is around $700k.
Personally I love the look of Mt Martha as it is near the beach and it looks like it has a 'community' feel, but DH is likely to be working in the city, so is it realistically commutable? Also looks like it might be a real hike to the airport from there?
We have loads of friends and family in Burwood and I like this area too, as I like the fact you can do lots without using the car.
OH is very keen on Wonga Park as property-wise it looks like you get a bit more for your money, but I'm a bit put off because it looks so spread out and it feels like you'd always be in the car.
I'm used to village life in UK, where you can walk to friends, shop, park etc
Hi J
A tough decision, personally I wouldn't decide on either until you arrive. I presume that once you arrive you will be staying with family so maybe take this chance to visit both suburbs and get a feel for them. Wonga Park is closer to the CBD (around 35k) so a lot closer than Mount Martha. However, Mount Martha is a beautiful place and probably has a more homely feel. Maybe your OH could get a job somewhere other than the city?
