Registration renewal for Nursing in the UK. Worth keeping it up?

My nursing registration is due in Oct 08 and was wondering if anyone working in Oz has also kept theirs up and whether it is worth doing? We just don't know 100% what we are doing at the moment. If I were to let it laspe is it difficult getting back on the register? I am working full time here as a nurse. Any suggestions will be great! Thanks karen

Not a nurse but a belt and braces kind of girl - you never know when you might need it so dont let it lapse. I know that if I were to let my professional registration lapse it would be difficult to get back on to the register again.

I would absolutely re-register. I am a nurse, lived in Uk for 5 years - now nursing here back in Oz. You never know what wil happen. I kept up my Aussie registration when I was in UK for first couple of years...just in case. I think its worth the money to re-register...one less thing to worry about, should you return to the UK. Registration last 3 yrs doesn't it? If you're still in Oz 3 yrs down track, then review situation. I'm sure the nursing board would have been asked this question before- maybe give them a call or check on their website.

I have been here for over three years now.I renewed the rego once and mine is due up again in August. I KNOW that I will nto be coming back to UK to work!! I am not renewing mine.

I Would say if you "dont know" what you are doing or have any doubts....renew it!

My wife was in this situation when we lived in the US. She came back during our stay and wanted to do 'bank' work and it was a bit of hassle to sort it out.

She is intending to keep up her UK registration when we (hopefully) move to Melbourne next Jan.
