Ocean Grove or Mornington??

Hi everyone,
Up until now we have really been committed to living in Mornington when we finally get our visas but now we are wondering... two things happened - someone (can't remember who) suggested that there may not be much work around Mornington and my sister e-mailed me suggesting that we look at Ocean Grove. It looks so lovely on the web - are there any drawbacks? The houses are a bit cheaper and it is only 30 mins from Geelong.

What do you all think? Especially those who live in or near either of those places. My OH is an electrician and I can do pretty much anything admin/secretarial. We don't have children so don't need to worry about schools. I don't think either of us necessarily need to commute to the CBD.

We'd also be interested to know which areas of Geelong are particularly nice - does anyone know anything about Highton, Newtown or Clifton Springs?

We feel thrown into confusion - any info would be gratefully received!

X

Nothing wrong with any of the 3 areas you have mentioned.

(From a resident of one of them!)

Best wishes.

Thank you, Alan - they certainly look lovely!
What do you think about job prospects for an electrician in the area?

I recommend maybe contacting the local TAFE (the Gordon Institute - see Welcome to the Gordon Institute of TAFE, Geelong.) and asking them how they might help with licensing - a telephone call is probably better than an email.

That should give you an "in" with someone within the Gordon - you can then ask whether they know of any employers that are looking for electricians, what demand is like locally, etc.

Best regards.

Ocean Grove is nice, as is Barwon Heads and Torquay, we are in Torquay. All good beach suburbs and close to Geelong. 30 mins to Geelong, I would have thought 15 mins. Geelong is fine, all good suburbs that you mentioned. Highton I like especially. Llots of houses being built in Torquay and Geelong. Good luck!
