Mount Martha/Mornington, whats the travel like?

Hi there,

My OH and I love the look of the Mornington peninsula, Mount Martha in particular. I have done a search on Metlink for Mount Martha to Flinders Street Station, and it says the trip is about 2 hours. For all of you lucky people already living in Mount Martha, does this sound about accurate? (The only reason I ask is because the journey planner website for Transport for London is incredibly innacurate and is often out by an hour or so!). It is a reliable train service? Do you always manage to get a seat? Is it a fast/slow train? What is the best station to travel from in the Mornington Peninsula to Central Melbourne?

Sorry for all the questions, I know there are a lot more important things to worry about then travelling!! I spend 4 hours in total each day going to work in London and I know how stressful bad/overcrowded lines can be, so for me trains are a big issue!!

Hopefully someone can shed some light!!
Hayley

There are no trains from Mornington or Mount Martha. We aren't on the rail network. Frankston is the nearest and it is about an hour from Frankston to Flinders St on the train.

If you are driving it's about 95 minutes from Mornington to the CBD but can be much longer in peak traffic.

Felicity,

Thanks for your reply. I cant believe you have been over there for so long already, it feels like just yesterday you were writing posts about leaving yet its been a good few months already!

Metlinks journey planner returned results for taking a bus to Frankston, then train from there to Melbourne. Which makes sense if there are no trains from Mount Martha! What a shame there are no trains from there, the trip would be so much quicker then.

Thanks for letting me know about the drving time, that was going to be my next question!
Looks like we are going to have to re-consider areas again! So many things to factor in!

Hayley

Hi Hayley

You can drive to Frankston from Mornington/Mount Martha in about 15-20 mins.

The train from Frankston to the CBD takes about an hour and 20mins and runs every 15-20 minutes. They are mostly slow trains (stopping at nearly evey station) not sure if they have a fast service during rush hour. The car park at the station is free.

I regularly drive to the CBD from Mount Martha and outside of peak times it can take between 50-60 mins obviously during peak times it can take longer.

Hope this helps
Deb xx

Not sure on some of your journey times folks, but this is what I can tell you.

Mt Martha to Mornington, 5-10 minutes depending on where in both suburbs.
I drive from Mornington to Frankston daily. Its 15 mins
The train from Frankston to the CBD is approx 1 hour.
The drive from Mornington to the CBD is just over an hour...may take 1 hr 15 if busy.
Its never taken me 95 minutes...you need a faster car Felicity :)

And that would be a typo from me! Thanks Paul, I did mean 65 or 75 but most definitely not 95!
