It is a bit bizarre in the winter in Melbourne. You see the locals in big, coats, scarves & beenies and the migrants in shorts & t-shirts!
The Melburnians say 'it's freezing' when it gets below around 12c.

The whole time I was there in the Winter I didn't put the heater on once in my CBD apartment.

I agree re the changeable weather, Melbourne is famous for it.

June is a good time to arrive, as its the same as uk spring! we arrived in febuary it was 44 degrees i nearly died as we had left at -5 degrees.
It will be good to have all the spring and summer to look forward too. you wont feel the cold the first winter but you had better have your jackets ready for next winter as after experiencing a long hot summer you will notice the cold!

I agree, I have just arrived in Brisbane and it's so hot 28 degrees in the day and 18 degrees at night. I sleep at night with only a sheet over me. Where the locals are freezing and wear their winter pj's to bed! during the day I'm in shorts and t-shirts their in tracky dacks and windcheaters!
I'm going to freeze when I get back to Victoria
