Just read my post back, and yes i do realise that you were the original poster but it didn't come across that way. I was kinda speaking to the general populace half way through on my rant.

Mis-information is my greatest bug-bear on these forums and i ilke to smash it to bits if someone is being unfair.....like for example when people tell me it takes an hour to get to Werribee from the CBD....WTF?

Oh gosh

I really didn't expect to be entering a vipers nest here... I did say I DON'T KNOW ABOUT SUNSHINE and then merely said what I'd been told by some Melbournites. It's for everyone to do their own research. I was just passing on opinions and hear-say - I don't expect anyone to take what I say as an ultimate guide. I'm not out to annoy or denegrate anyone or any area. I'm new to Melbourne - and hope people can give me their suggestions, and put me right where necessary, but not in a nasty way, please. I'm really not opinionated.

When I said EVERYWHERE has pockets of good and bad, I'm pretty sure I'm right. I don't see what is so offensive in that.

Now that I've received your post I will look at the West.... maybe you should thank me - without my East-preferable post there would have been no opportunity to stand up against the snobbery. And I thank you in turn. You've given me the impetus to broaden my search and open new doors.

Can we keep it friendly please? I love to hear the pros and cons from everyone. I'm new remember, and like everyone, just posting progress and personal experience.

No worries. And i apologize for getting on 'ya. It's just annoying as hell when you see it all the time. (For the record i lived 2 yrs in Seaford and have never seen so much crime first hand in this country or the last one. couldn't leave quick enough.) As Gail said, never seen any trouble in PC in 2 years.....with the exception of the arson attack the other week on house which was a family dispute apparently ;) )

Ok let's start over:

The problem here is what you heard might be (almost certainly is) mis-information by uninformed people. Someone on another thread said it best, "It always rains in Manchester" sums it up nicely. Got news for 'ya, i had a perception that Aussies were all about mateship and a fair go, i believe the reality of that (particularly in the workplace and definately with regards to "Generation Y") is a direct polar opposite. I guess we shouldn't believe everything we hear eh? :)

With regards to everyone doing their own research, these forums are a big part of that research which is why i'm kinda anal about correct, informed, first hand opinions being delivered. When someone gives a request on an area i never offer an opinion unless i know about it. That way i don't perpetuate myths. ;)

I guess the point i was trying to make is, in your initial post you've requested info. on certain areas. You wouldn't want people giving you said information when they don't know the first thing about the area would you? (But thats what you did with wendyc74). Not just you kiddo, i see it all the time and it really bugs the hell outta me (as you could probably tell! :) )

Hope we be cool.

RD

75 Nepean Hwy, right smack bang in the heart of the so-called good bit. ;) Says a lot for the rest of the 'burb eh? :)

Right on the beach i was (i'm yet to see a better beach in Melbourne btw, about the only good thing the place had going for it.) All well and good enjoying a great beach when your fence is being set on fire, your neighbours are being burgled and your car is being broken into. (Among other things.) If you're willing to make those kind of sacrifices for a decent beach then more power to 'ya!

My Mood:
daniel is an unknown quantity at this point
Thanks for that Rachel, will look forward to it.

I have absolutely no clue about areas, but where we live at the moment has a really bad reputation and is nothing like what people actually think. Visitors are always amazed by how quiet it is. I don't think you can tell what a place is like until you've lived there, you could get nightmare neighbours in a really posh part of town. Although after a bottle or two we could become those nightmare neighbours, here's hoping.

See you soon
