Anyone else on a reccy in Melbourne?

Hi all,

After 18 months of applying for visa, we are finally here on a 3 week reccy of Melbourne. It is so weird to see everything for real when you have just looked at things on the internet or tv!

It is undescribable how you feel after the long journey with 2 young children, you are exhausted.

We are renting an appartment in Patterson Lakes, which is nice for a holiday but couldn't live around here.

We have been to Berwick a couple of times as we have family there and it really is a beautiful place. So anyone thinking of that area, have no doubts.

We can't believe how aus looks like Florida, except it is not as over powering.

We went to McDonalds today for lunch and couldn't believe the price of a McFlurry, $3.45!!
That's £1.70, suppose it helps you to be healthy!

If you are thinking of emigrating to Oz, all we can advise is that you come out first and have a look around. It will give you a good idea as to whether it is the right thing to do or not.

We have learnt that everything you read on this site, good or bad is usually the truth.

Oz is just like the UK, except it has better weather and an outdoor lifestyle.

Good luck to you all x x

Ps We are still undecided as to emigrate or not!

Hi there, welll where shall we start!
Berwick is lovely, houses great, shops in village lovely, beautiful botanic park, good schools, land is increasing in price but you can see why. Our relations took us to a new estate called The Hunt Club in the next suburb to Berwick called Cranbourne East. That is where we hope to get a rent and hopefully buy a near new or new house as very affordable. We can get a new Burbank home for about $330,000 all in with land and extra costs.
I tell you when you get here you will be bowled over, I was very scared about coming and I fell in love in about 3 days of being here. If you have a contact then use them because their help is invaluable.
When they build a new estate here they put a pre-school, primary school, shops, doctors, park and there is always a train station not too far away!
We are coming back for good in June and can't wait!
I could write a book for you on what we have researched whilst been here for 2 weeks! Going back to UK on 24th April and June won't come quick enough!
If you have any questions please ask and all I can say is Good Luck, you will love it!
People told me that but I never believed them!
Love Sarah x

arh thanks for all that, you read so many things on this site that it is all down to personal preference, everyone i have come across though has said that berwick is lovely. i am going to write a daily blog whilst i am there so i can read back and remember the good and the bad. i have started the process but need to wait for nursing skills assessment to be passed before can apply for visa. have been offered sponsorship though so unsure which route to take, got 3 boys so need something relatively permanent. can't change their lives drastically without putting everything into it. don't think we will be out there for good until after xmas.

Hi guys

Thanks for the info, glad you are enjoying your reccie. We are planning on coming to Melbourne for good March 09 if we get our visa soon (fingers crossed). We have no doubts but our kids are grown up so don't have to think about schools, etc.

Hope you can make up your minds soon.

Les
