OK, so who DOES live in Mornington and Mount Martha?
Hi everyone, I have been dying to ask this for a couple of weeks now... how many of you actually live in Mornington or Mount Martha or are planning to do so? Could we have a bit of a count up? It may be just because we are planning to live there ourselves, but it seems that every other person is living down there - is it very crowded?! We decided on the area after research on the internet - we are actually coming for a visit in October (can't wait!!) but after reading all the posts, I think the decision is made. I have never seen one single negative comment about it....come on, there must be something... We are drinking up every last bit of info so would love to hear about recomendations for places to eat, visit - even which roads or areas are nice. We are leaning towards Mornington, really just because it seems to have more going on than Mount Martha in the way of shops and facilities. So, all our future neighbours... let's hear from you!

My daughter lives in Mt Martha & we love visiting down that way. Mornington sort of merges into Mt Martha so you could easily live in Mt Martha but enjoy the cafes & restaurants in Mornington.
Its very popular with the Brits but its nowhere near crowded. There are some beautiful beaches around the area and of course some fantastic cafes & restaurants to sit & enjoy your flat white or skinny latte.
I don't live there but in my opinion if you don't have to work in the CBD then its one of the best areas in Melbourne to live.
We are in Mornington, me, oh and 3 boys. We have been here since June and love it.
There is a real mixture of people here and something for everyone.
There are definatley a lot of brits here but I can honestly say it is nowhere near crowded!!
Mount Martha is also a great place and as Bordy said it sort of merges into Mornington so if you live in Mt Martha you will not be too far away to be able to enjoy all that Mornington has to offer!!
Hi Sorry to be negative but I HATED every minute of our 7 weeks stay in Mount Martha. Beach is lovely. But that's about all. Bus as you can see it is just my opinion other people love it. From the first week we were there I cried every day. I was not emotional over leaving the UK etc so that was not the issue. We are now in the Yarra Ranges and love it. Each to their own!

mornington here we come
We lived in both Mornington and Mount Martha before settling further inland on the Peninsula. We too chose those areas after researching on the net and we weren't disappointed. It's a great place to start off so you have chosen well. Good luck.

We are renting in Mornington whilst we build in Mt Martha and love the area!
The schools are good, there are plenty of shops, bars, good places to eat and even a couple of night clubs. Mornington has a small cinema or you can go to the drive in at Rosebud. We have beautiful, safe beaches bayside or if you like the surf you can go ocean side. We are surrounded by wineries, vinyards and golf courses!
I suppose the only negative I can think of is that we dont have a train line, you have to go to Frankston for that but to be honest, we are pretty self sufficient down here so unless you need to get into the city for work, you dont need the train any way!
My 9yo plays football, Ausie rules, basketball and swims so there are plenty of sporting clubs to chose from.
We have made lots of friends, in fact we had a house full of them last night to welcome my son back from the UK!
There are retirement villages down here but thats probabley because its a place where Ausies dream of living but cant afford to untill they get to that age.
My 19 yo is out down Main St' every weekend and loves it, the 21 yo has only been here 5 days but has been down there every night so far!
It dose get crowded during the summer holidays but thats a small price to pay for living in a tourist spot.
This is only my opinion and as said before.....each to their own......but the peninsula works for us.
Good luck.
