The best area to live in or near melbourne for families????

I am considering melbourne as one of the places to immigrate to, can anyone give me some advise on where the best areas to live are for families ie schools, houses etc

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lewis

Hi Lewis, we are going to mornington or around that area. We visited there in dec 2006 where my sister in law lives and fell in love with the place. I hear the schools are not too bad either. The beaches are close and very clean so if you like the beach then thats a plus for you. There is also a map of Mel floating around the forum somewhere which may help you decide. Im a carpenter and i understand there is a lot of work out there too. Hope this helps you, best of luck in your journey

I live in Ferntree Gully at the bottom of the Dandenongs & love it around here but I'd say Mornington or Mt Eliza or Mt Martha are perfect for you.

Hi
We are going to Melbourne but don't have a clue where to go but Mornington seems to be the most popular place. Going to have a look at Geelong and those areas along the coast too.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Les

We live in Mornington and we are very happy here. It has great schools which was very important to us, great beaches and even tho house prices have gone up the last year or so it is still affordable!!

We are about an hour away from CBD by train and depending on traffic it takes between 50mins to an hour by car (rush hour longer).

We have not yet been to Geelong so cant comment so ask me in a week or so when we get back as we are going next week.

Hi Lewis

As a carpenter you should be able to get state sponsorship which is a lot easier than employer sponsorship if you haven't yet found an employer willing to do so. Here is a link to more info Skilled - Sponsored Eligibility List I applied as a chippie 4 years ago and the whole process only took 18 weeks. We originally based ourselves in Mornington and it's great down here.

Hi there
We have relatives living in Pakeham. Don't know the other areas you mention. We have no idea of where to head to ourselves are just going to spend some time driving around when we get there. We would like to live near to the coast and about 1 hour from the City. Have a look at Mornington, Mt. Martha these seem to be really popular places with people from UK with young kids. Our are 18 & 21 so have no worries about schools, etc.
Let us know how you get on.

Les
