Solo integration

Hi All

I had my final interview with the bank in the CBD today via phone and find out tomorrow whether or not I will be going out there.

So it's nearly decision time! I've seen plenty of posts on here about how happy people are in Melbourne etc. However, it seems to be almost all families on here - I will be going on my own, as a single 29 year old with no children. I'm hoping that my new colleagues will be up for going out and will be a good friendly bunch.

So I guess what I'm asking is that although the families on here seem to be happy with Melbourne life, are there many people in the same situation as me who have found it a good place to integrate and get involved in and enjoy themselves? As I've mentioned before, I have been looking at places in Docklands and now Southbank to rent an appartment.

Cheers

James

Hi James,

How's it going?

I'm over here on my own too (and from Essex!) whereabouts in Essex are you? I came over here in January on my own (I'm 30) and I must admit it was a bit hard at first but its definitely easier now I'm working. They seem to have a really good work atmosphere here - including beer o'clock on a Friday afternoon and people are pretty up for going out. What sort of work do you do?

I'm working in the CBD and living in a flatshare in Southbank which is great for going out and theres always something going on in Melbourne. I've had a few times where I've thought 'What am I doing, all my friends are at home!' but then if you go out and do something you can't do at home then it generally all seems better,

So are you definitely coming out here?
Cheers
Leanne

Hey Leanne

It's going great thanks, and yourself?!

I'm from Thurrock, whereabouts in Essex are you from? That sounds good - always a pleasure to have Friday beer o clock! That sort of mentality seems to have faded away in London unfortunately! I work in banking and will also be in the CBD, in Bourke Street. I love the idea of being able to walk to work! Thanks for the advice, makes me feel a bit more re-assured.

I did get a call saying I passed the interviews, so I have until Tuesday to make my mind up! I think I am definitely going to accept - probably start on July 1st! Sounds like Southbank could be the way forward then? Are there any blocks/appartment buildings that you would recommend in particular?

Apologies for all the questions! Be cool to get in touch via email or something if you're up for that?

Cheers

James
