Geelong Or Mornington?

Hi
We are Lesley, Warren, Sophy & Harry. We are hoping to go to Melbourne by the end of this year or early next. We have no idea of where to live in the Melbourne area we did visit last October but only briefly. We have been looking at Geelong and have heard a lot about Mornington on here. Has anyone been to Geelong?

I have never been as you know but just wanted to say that there was a Wanted Down Under in Geelong. It looked really nice, even my sister phoned and said "try there"..lol

How are you? How many coming to the meet in Sittingbourne, do you know?
We have been looking at Geelong but haven't been there before. We just don't want to be right in the city area.

Hi les how are you? We are going to the mornington peninsula which is very nice but we havnt been to geelong to compare. They are probably as good as each other. Whats the schools like in the areas and the house prices? Will you find work in those areas? Thats the sort of questions I would need to ask before making a decision. Hope you make the right decision and speak soon

Hi Lesley,
We are not long back from our reccie - we stayed in Geelong for 2 weeks.
However we have decided to settle in Mornington / Mount Martha.
Geelong is OK and has many good points, but we really liked the look and feel of Mornington.
Of course ultimately work will decide where we settle.

Hi Steve
It seems that Mornington is the "place". We don't need to think about schools. Not sure on the work situation - house prices reasonable but again all depends on location. There are people on here who actually live in Mornington and I have asked if they would send some photos to me via email and any information they can. If I receive anything will let you know. We will be able to stay with relatives when we arrive (if ever) so don't have any pressure to go straight to a rental or hotel. We're hoping to have at least 2-4 weeks to drive around and have a good look before making any decisions.

Hi Gary
Seems that Mornington is definitely the most popular place to us "Poms". When we get to Oz we will make sure we have a good look around all these places before we make any decision. I hadn't actually thought of Mornington before but it has been mentioned so much on here it must be worth a look.

I am fine just biting me nails down prior to the medicals next Wed ! Looking forward to coming and hope we have more chance to talk this time.

Hi Les & Woz, we are moving to Geelong end of this year beginning of next (fingers crossed). Eldest son is looking at Police there so will attend acedemy in Glen Waverley, and second son will be attending East Geelong TAFE, so we will be moving to an area close to the TAFE. We really like the seaside feel and have looked at Torquay, although it's a bit pricey. A lot of people seem to be moving to Hoppers Crossing, Point Cook or Sanctuary Lakes, but as we like the sea it's the other side of Geelong we like the look of most. Hope you find what your looking for.
