Hi Lesley,
We too are hoping to be in Geelong at some point this year. Our reason for moving there is that I have family in this area and it will be good for my OH and son to have familiar faces around them to help them settle in.
My sister and cousin live in Lara......my aunt lives in Corio.
We would like to settle in Lara but I think we will likely start off in Geelong (renting) until I get settled into employment.

Like you say, spend some time driving around when you arrive.
Good luck

Gill

Hi Helen
We may all end up there around the same time if we get our act together and get our visas and sell the house, etc. We still like the look of Geelong but until we have been there for ourselves, it's hard to know what to do. Mornington seems to be the "in" place at the moment for us Poms.

Hi Lara
Yes, I think the answer is to have a good drive around. When we were in Melbourne last year we didn't go anywhere near these areas so have plenty of trawling round to do! (Beats going to work - lol)

Hi. well my parents have lived in Geelong for 12mnths now and believe me its up and coming! iv visited twice now and you wud be surprised at the amount of ex pats actually there! i have alot of family there and my parents have made many friends both ozzi and brits, I myself will be joining them as soon as my visa arrives... had my medical and just waiting now. Cant say iv heard of the other place your looking at but i can honestly say Geelong is beautiful and they are currently building a freeway near by to cut down journey time to melbourne. Good luck in whatever you decide and who knows, if you choose Geelong, i may see you on the other side!!!

Smile Mornington for us !!!!

As I hav'nt been to Geelong I cant really comment on it, but I can say Mornington is lovely !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try this link: http://www.travelvictoria.com.au/mornington/
It has info and pictures too.
Have you trawled through the Victoria section on here too... there has been quite abit about Gellong and Monrington, so it might be worth a read aswell, if youve got some spare time.
Good luck with it !!

Now that's a toughie!

They are both my favourite places.

From experience I'd say there's more going on on the Mornington side of the bay. We were initially going to live in Mornington but couldn't find a school that we liked. We ended up moving to Frankston South so our boys could go to Frankston High School (strict catchment area). In a few years when the boys are at Uni we'll go further south.

We have relatives in Geelong/Leopold/Ocean Grove so go over to that side quite a bit. Love Geelong esplanade and Eastern Beach.

I'm torn.......can't really pick either one.
