I am a fair way through the process of interviewing with a bank in the CBD and am now looking at where to live in Melbourne. I want to rent an appartment - and Docklands looks great and seems to be within walking distance of the CBD as well as being in quite a picturesque setting. It also seems to be within walking distance of plenty of lively areas, bars, restaurants etc.
Have I completely got all of this wrong, or would this be a decent place for me to rent somewhere for a year?
Hey james,
Docklands and south bank are great if your looking for a city aprtment.
Very easy walking diatance to cbd
I have brother in mel, and we always visit south bank, for lunch and theres a nice irish bar there for drinks also.
I am currently in process of obtaining my visa for the move, cant wait, as i have been there many times and now to live for good will be amazing.
Hope all goes well
The West side of the CBD is where all the office buildings are & the East is more focussed on retail. I lived in the Paramount building on the corner of Bourke & Exhibition and found it an excellent location to live (had gym, sauna, pool & shopping in same building).
Personally I found the Southbank area rather sterile & dead at the weekend. The Docklands was still being built in 2004 when I was in Melbourne.
I'm moving back to Melbourne next year and plan to take a look at the Docklands area for an apartment but at the moment I'd favour somewhere in the CBD.
The QV building(s) would be a great place to live around the Lonsdale / Swanston Street.
Hi, thanks for that, gives me a second area to scour for appartments as well.
The ideal for me would be furnished and serviced if possible, but maybe I just shouldn't be so lazy!
Checkout our website if you need somewhere on arrival. We are just in the process of organising a Docklands apartment for new arrivals to base themselves in the first few weeks.
The bank are putting me up for a couple of weeks (thanks anyway Andy), so guess I will just look around then and decide. I was hoping for a few more furnished places though than seem to be on the websites!

Drop Sam / Catherine an email at Melbourne Property Solutions m.p.s@bigpond.com. The're a small real estate agent based in the CBD, they don't have a huge selection of properties but I've found them very helpful.
I can recommend staying in the Paramount building which is where they are based.
Cheers Pinhead, I'll drop them a line and fire a few questions their way.
Paramount looks good, I'll probably be looking to get a 2 bed somewhere for $500-$550 a week though. I've knocked the serviced idea on the head with that though, but still be nice to get furnished.
No problem. The facilities in the Paramount building are very good with a sauna, gym, spa & pool.
It's just round the corner from the Bourke Street mall, QV shopping centre (has Safeway, Big W, KFC,etc) cinema, etc.The actual address is 181 Exhibition Street.
I was paying $400 pw for a fully furnished 1 bed with a car parking space back in 2004. There was already an informal arrangement with the car parking space so my rent was reduced to $365 pw.
You should be able to get a 2 bed fully furnished in your price range.
I'll probably be looking to rent again in the Paramount building again when I go back.
If you look on the real estate section of Yahoo.com.au there is usually at least one Paramount apartment for rent.
PS
If you like good fish and chips try 'Concrete' on the corner of Russell & Lonsdale.
