Melbourne visit

Hi all,

My husband and I are coming out to stay with family in Perth in June but we are planning to migrate to Melbourne, so are planning a reccy visit to there for a couple of days. Does anyone have an idea of somewhere nice but relatively inexpensive to stay? We will be arriving on the 16th June and flying back on the 18th.

It would also be really nice to meet up with any nurses whilst we are there, just for a chat to see how different it is from the UK and ask lots of "stupid" questions!!

Thanks

Tanya

If you are only coming for 2 days you would probably enjoy staying in a city hotel. Having said that only giving yourself 1 full day to have a look around (city and suburbs) really isn't long enough. If you are coming on a serious recci trip give yourself a little longer, 4 days to a week really if you have the time.

Melbourne visit

Hi Andy,

We are planning on arriving at lunch time on the 16th and leaving on the 18th in the evening, so will be pretty much 2 full days. Just need to get a feel for the place and see if I can cope with spiders!! LOL

We also need to try to work out what work is there for my husband, he is a service garage manager over here. I really want to meet up with someone who is a nurse to answer some of my silly questions!!

Do you have any idea of places to stay? We were looking at Bayview hotel?? Do you have an idea of any nice places we could visit that would help us get a feel for Melbourne?

Any help is always appreciated ;o)

Tanya

On further reflection and having spoken to my mother, who has visited Oz loads, we are now going to arrive on the 11th June and return to Perth on the 17th June.

Hi Tanya, 6 days is far better than 2 to get a feel for the place. Have you got any idea where abouts you want to settle or what type of place eg, near the city, away from the city, by the sea, inland?? Sounds like you are not necessarily tied to the CBD with your job types.

I agree with the previous post a 6 day visit is far better than a 2 day visit

Mornington peninsular is a great place to visit
And probably a great place to settle.
So if you have time then I would definitely visit morington peninsular.

But for a short-term visit a central location is probably your best option.

The Victoria hotel on little Collins Street is as good a place as any to base your self
If funds are limited then the budget hotel on little Collins Street is a good alternative
It is rated as 2.5 stars.
It is half way between a hotel and a hostel.

It is only a short walk up the hill to parliament train station.
You are within 10-min walk from some good Chinese restaurants.
20 –25-min (or one train stop to flinders station and a 5-min) walk to the south bank were there is a wide selection of good restaurants.

Hi again,

I'm not sure yet where we would like to settle....we live by the sea now, so I guess close to or within an easy drive would be good!! My son will be going to RMIT university in Bundoora, so I would like for him not to have to travel too far every day....Also he likes golf, so close to a golf course would be great for him!! Any ideas of areas that would fit this criteria???
