Help needed for a nurse

Hi,

I am just starting to get all my documents together to send to the Nursing Board of Victoria, is there anyone out there who can tell me about this letter of employment/reference and how in depth it has to be to get approval?

Also does anyone have any idea on how long they are taking at the moment to issue approval??

Your help would be very much appreciated.

Tanya

Hi Tanya,
The more indepth your reference letter is, the less chance there is of NBV coming back to you for more information

Start by saying whether your employment is permanent or temporary - what shifts you work...early, late, nights - what band or grade you are and what your working week consists of ie...full time is 5 days out of 7, part time 4 days out of 7 etc.

A paragraph explaining what your work/ward is ie medical, surgical etc.....how many beds and how many patients you have responsibility for during your shift.

What you do during a shift.......assess,plan,implement care etc......communication skills, working with multidisciplinary team etc....

A short paragraph stating that you are a safe and competent practitioner.....moving and handling, basic life support updates. WHat further learning that you have undertaken ie learning packs.........drug admin, IV admin, blood transfusion, record keeping etc....

Your record of absence, sickness
That your work communicates in the English language and that you are proficient in this language within the workplace - this must be stated somewhere on your reference.

Try and include a job description (get one from HR)
Oh and get your charge nurse or boss to sign the reference off as Ward Manager.

Seems long winded but it will reduce the chances of them coming back to you wanting more information.

Mine took about 10 weeks from initial posting to receiving registration

Good luck and hope everything goes well

Gill

Thank you, that has been very helpful!! We are coming over to Melbourne for a couple of days in June as we are visiting relatives in Perth. Any ideas of anywhere nice but reasonable to stay?

Tanya
