Sorry to hear about your bad experience but after getting off such a huge flight it is hard to feel positive. We went to Melbourne in November for a visit and loved it. There is so much to do and we adore Berwick. Yes unfortunatly you get the idiots that have to spell their names on walls but remember Melbourne is a city and isn't going to be sparkly but again there is just so much to do. Obviously it is all about preference and jobs really. We stayed in near Richmond when we were over and not where we would want to live but we travelled out lot's and found some gorgeous areas.
Take a look around and believe me the jet lag doesn't help with decisions. Good luck with your search.

Sad to hear that you had such a bad impression of Melbourne. I really loved it from the moment I arrived.
Of course it is a bad situation if your house doesn't look as you thought it would, but I think the city really is nice. Personally I also really like the CBD with its shops and restaurants.
The only thing I really must agree with you is taxis - taxi drivers in Melbourne have no clue of the city and they will always try to trick you.
Hope you will start enjoying to live here soon!

I visited Melbourne in Feb to have a look. My other half is putting on the pressure for us to move there. I thought it was ok, but definitely much more built up than I had imagined, and... it seemed to take hours to get anywhere!! I bought 'Where to Live in Melbourne' on the net. The CBD had the highest crime rate of the whole of Melbourne districts and I quote "is not generally recommended as a place for children/families". Unluckily for you, thats where you started. I have heard Boroondara is pretty, clean and low crime rate. As with everywhere you have to pay more for the nicer districts....
Hope things get better for you. Good luck.

Hi The Hutchies.

We loved Melbourne. Simple as that really. I posted our reccie report in News Gossip and Chat a few weeks ago. It might take a while to find and it might take even longer to read lol. We did loads while we were there and I tried to post as much of our experiences as I could, hence the length of it. Hope it gives a little insight into what Melbourne has to offer. If you want any more info please feel free to pm.

T xx

Ps. I've just checked and its currently on page 18 entitled "Our Melbourne Reccie".
