Chloe

We are in Geelong at the moment about an hour from Melbourne. In the local paper they have a couple of pages of 2nd hand cars. A couple of websites that may help that I have taken from the paper are

www.gordonavenuemotors.com.au

Winter & Taylor - Welcome

Blood Toyota Geelong - Home
ROAD RUNNER AUTOS - GEELONG

I'm not sure if they are national or regional but they should at least give you an indication of prices.
We have found the price of used cars to be really quite high.

Hope this helps

Michelle

No problem.

I have to say that we don't like big cities, having lived in a small rural village for 6 years after moving from a city we couldn't ever imagine moving back to somewhere big again. But Melbourne was fab. We just really loved it. I can't tell you why but it just had a feeling of being a good place.

I hope you like it. As I said in a previous post people were so helpful and friendly without asking people offered help, certainly not what we are used to in the UK.

Best wishes

Michelle

One of the best places to get an idea of car prices is Used Cars - New Cars - Search New & Used Cars For Sale - carsales.com.au who cater for new, used, dealer and private. However, if you want to buy and save money check out our carfinder page on my website below.

cars

Hi,

With regards to buying cars be aware that not all cars are priced to drive away most do not include stamp duty and rego, so when you ask about a car get the on the road price it makes a big difference to the final figure, if its done less than 110,000km they have to provide you with a statutory warrenty unless its a commercial motor which some 4x4 are. Cars tend to be more exspensive here as they are in better condition as a rule.

Hope this is of help

We thought they seemed more expensive too, for second hand. We got a new Suzuki Liana though, and came in at about $20,000 on the road. Not much cheaper for a second hand one!

Off the original point, another thing which we didn't know about was CTP insurance; when you register a car, you must buy compulsary third party (CTP) insurance. This only covers injury/death to people you may injure in an accident, not property or cars you may damage. You buy your car insurance seperately, as in the UK, but here it is not compulsary to have it; just CTP is required by law. You can end up being insured on the same car with two different providers, as we are. CTP with one company, fully comp with another. Bit confusing if you need to claim I expect, will be changing it when due!
