Final Recce in March, Help!!

Hi Everybody,

I'm currently sorting out all the planning and logistics (the fun stuff!!) for our trip to Melbourne in March. Charly is away in Iraq until a few days before we leave, so I'm feeling the pressure of doing all the organizing at the moment! I'm really keen on getting everything planned out as well as possible, I want her to enjoy the trip as much as possible and come away with loads of positive and happy memories of our trip. So here goes, i'm looking for some top tips and any recommendations that everybody can offer us to make sure we get the best out of our trip.

So far we are going to be staying in Seaford on the eastern edge of the bay, I'm hoping this is a good base that will allow us to explore the peninsula and the city without to much traveling.

I have a few questions that I hope you guys can help with:
Does anyone know the cheapest place to get a hire car from? Have trawled the usual internet spots and wondering if anybody has used/knows of a good local firm?

Also looking at going on a vineyard tour (I'm sure she'll like that!), same question really, any recommendations of which company to go with or perhaps which to avoid...

Same with a trip t see the Penguins on Phillip Island, any horror stories or good experiences with various tour companies?

Charly is a nurse (and the source of our visa!) so she is interested in checking out Frankston Hospital, and perhaps The Alfred too. Any nurses been through he same experience, are the hospitals approachable for a quick visit and chat about employment prospects etc...?

Well thats all that springs into my head now, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has any good ideas of things we "must" see or do whilst we are in Victoria.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Nick

Life on easy street is on a distinguished road
I toured around the whole of Australia with AAT Kings several year’s ago
They provided a good service.
But there are number of smaller companies not sure how good they are

Places to visit
The great coast road
Most tour companies run a one-day tour with
The option of a one night stops over at a hotel on the coast road.
If do not mind flying there are helicopter rides to view the twelve apostles
I think this was 90 Dollars.

The Penguins on Phillip Island
But if you are going to hire a car then you can do these tours at your own pace.
Yes you can do the great coast road in a day but
I would recommend a stop over on the great coast because it is not a fast road.

Hi Nick

Seaford is probably just under an hour from the city, 5 mins from Frankston which then goes onto the Peninsula.

There are loads of wineries around the Peninsula to choose from.

Phillip island is a must!! You will get plenty of different companies who will do day trips to Phillip Island although if you are hiring a car it may be worth driving there yourself and taking it at your own pace.

Cant answer question with regards to hospitals however you could always email them prior to your visit asking them your questions and see what they say.

Have a great trip
Deb xx
