Exclamation melbourne weather, the truth??

Hi all
can someone (preferably living in melbourne) tell me what the weather is really like? is it as bad as people say? as the weather in oz is obviously one of the main points for our emigration. we were looking at melbourne until all the awful reports of weather! tho every time you see neighbours its blistering sun!! thanx x

If you do not like the weather wait a day

The weather depends on the direction of the wind

if it is from the north you get hot temp air heated by Australian continent
this time of year 37 deg.

if it is from the South you get air cooled by the southern ocean.
this time of year 15 deg.

There is the occasional cloudy day but very little rain
this is a change from 15 years ago when there were more cloudy day,s
and more spring showers.
this is causing a serious drought in victoria they are currently
on level 3a drought restrictions by jan it will be level 4.

The weather is like the UK - but about 10 degrees C warmer. The lowest maximum daily temperature in winter is around 10 degrees C. In summer, days of 40 degrees C occur about a dozen times.

And is doesn't rain as much - which is a negative (ie we are in a drought) as much as it is a positive (ie we can go to the beach more!).

In other words - don't believe anyone who says Melbourne weather is the same as the UK!

Best regards.

The latest it gets dark is about 9.30pm - we have Daylight Savings Time here, unlike QLD where it is dark at about 7pm in mid-summer (being closer to the equator means the hours of daylight in QLD are closer to 12 hours throughout the year).

The earliest it gets dark in Melbourne is about 5.00pm in mid-June.

Best regards.

We are having aircon put into the house we are building!!
The house we are renting doesn't have it and it is soooooooo hot in summer. The fans do nothing, just blow warm air around. Its only spring at the moment and 28 forcast today but we have already had temps' up to 37.
As for a pool, its personal choice but you would get plenty of use out of it, perhaps not as much as you would if you were further north but if you have solar heating with it, you could probabley use it november thro' to april.

Depends what your looking for.
Pauls a brickie and works all over the place so travelling distance to work was never an issue for us.
Whilst doing our research from the UK we thought we had decided on Berwick but once we were here and visited the Peninsula I knew it was where I wanted to live. Paul took a bit more convincing but now loves it.
There are lots of lovely places on all sides of the city, you really do need to get in the car and have a drive around them once you are here. Visit the shopping malls, have lunch and try and get a feel for a place. It is pretty stresfull on top of everything else when you first arrive but it dose help give you an idea.
Good luck!!
Lesley
