I think the weather is very much like the med, but I feel the summers are longer here. This year the weather did start to warming up end of Oct and we had some cold days, and rain but dont see that often. Now we have started summer and its been nice, it is still warmer than the UK, and I know I will still be using my pool right through till April on and off. If I had moved further up it would have be to hot, and they have bigger animals up there LOL
Well Melbourne city is great, loads of places to eat, and night life is great too. Clean and the infrustrature is good too. I have been to Sydney and I think our city is better, OK they have to Opera house and the bridge, but we are getting our own Melbourne EYE like London Eye, near the docklands. Everything here is easy reach, not like living on the outskirts of london which takes hours to get into the city, then too expensive to have fun. You will love
Hi Flacks

This weekend is in fact a bad time to be discussing Melbourne weather, I think we must have had 4 inches of rain in the last few days and the wind, yikes!
There has been little bit of rain in Melbourne with a small amount of flooding.
But I have been here four months and this is the first serious rain they have had
In Melbourne.
This annoys me. I lived in Melbourne for more than 20 years and am soon to move back there. Its annual rainfall is apparently less than Sydney though it used to rain more often, but less. These days they are apparently lucky to get any rain at all. As for winter etc, yes, they do have one - it gets pretty chilly at night etc and can be quite cold in the early morning, but not for that long - from about mid May through to the end of August, and not all the time. It tends to be a bright coldness rather than the greyness you tend to have in the UK - though it has a few grey days. One thing I would say is that its nice to have a winter, when the summer seems to drag on so long - its nice to have a nice coat, and wear knee high boots, and feel a bit wintery for a small time of the year. My brother moved to Perth a few years ago and doesn't even own a coat - I wouldn't like that! So its a bit down to personal taste. Summer is summer, and by British standards is bloody hot. February can be particularly hot, you just want that cool change to come. My mother emailed me earlier and they are expecting 41 degrees on New Year's eve - that hot enough for ya?! If you want nice barbecues and sunshine and swimming weather, etc, you will get plenty in Melbourne, as well as all the other lovely stuff Melbourne has to offer.
We have been trying to choose between melbourne and perth, the weather seems very tempting in perth, but I do find constant heat too much. melbourne weather seems ideal for us poms!.
Also the houses in Perth look more like holiday homes, melbourne homes look like real houses and more individual, I love the weatherboarded houses and the modern 2 storey homes (perth seems to be mostly one storey) in our price range and on very small plots.
We are looking in the mount martha, mornington areas.
Perth was a front runner but Melbourne has taken over with the weather and homes and is it really as lovely as it looks?

Yes Melbourne has seasons, having said that they do have very nice weather. It was 43 on New Years eve and has remained hot ever since (although not that hot). Today and over the next few days is going to be in the 30s. So it really is not all rain and cold here. To be honest I would rather have seasons than live in 24hr heat 7 days a week. That is just my opinion!!
Mount Martha and Mornington are very popular and yes it is as lovely as it looks. Minutes to the beach, shops, nightlife what more could you want.
