Hey Lolly,

My fiance and I are also going to Melbourne March/April time to do a last recce of the area before we emigrate hopefully early 09. We are also looking for a holiday appartment rather than a hotel. We've found some on the net but they've been a bit pricey.

Where are you looking at moving to? We're keen on the Mornington Penisula!

Hi Charly

We thinking of Mornington Penninsula too. Depends where Hubby gets work really...dont want him to have too long a commute. We've got 2 young boys so have got to find somewhere with good school etc too. Its scary isn't it?

Hey! Yeah its scary but very exciting. Apparently Frankston High School is very good! Have you got your visa's yet? We aren't applying until next summer as it works well with my job and what im doing at the mo (i'm a nurse). We are getting married next Sept so a very busy and big year for us!

Where are you moving from? We are in Plymouth. We love the beach and outdoor sports which is one of many reasons for moving to Oz!

Fingers crossed we hear of a nice holiday apartment!

Hi Lolly,

When my OH and I went to Melbourne we stayed at the HarbourView Apartments which is located in the docklands area of the CBD area. There's a reasonably priced (about AUS$24 return each) Skybus Super Shuttle that takes you to the train station on Spencer Street, which is about 5 mins walk from the hotel.

Here's the website Index but I would suggest booking through a comparison site (I use Travellors Point HarbourView Apartment Hotel Melbourne - Discount Reservations) as they can get you special rates.

The apartments are quite spacious and really help if you don't want to feel like you are living out of a suitcase. There's a separate bedroom and a kitchenette/lounge room with a shower and toilet room. The free tram runs along LaTrobe Street and takes you into the CBD proper though it's a nice walk in with a lovely little deli/bakery that is part of a cooking school along the way (we used to buy our breakfast or a tea time snack there!)

Hope this helps!

we are going over in 2 weeks and have booked a self service appartment in St kilda so we can look around for something more permanent. we got it off the web for around $80 a night (£30-40). they are the www.Darlingtontowers.com website. There quite a few around Melbourne CBD as well. the main website was www.ozhotels.com
hope that helps

Hi Lolly,

We recently returned from a scouting trip and stayed in a lovely 2 bed cottage in Richmond, which is 1 stop from Flinders Street Station. Have a look at the link below for info. We paid around $700 per week, and the location was fantastic for looking around Victoria. We also got a huge welcome pack on arrival so there was no need to shop straight away. Very close to CBD and restaurants, shops etc

Richmond Short-Term Accommodation

I hope this helps

Hi Lolly,
Can't help with the accommodation I'm afraid but we are going to Melbourne in April also for our Validation Trip. We are hoping to move to Australia later this year but need to sell house first - have had no luck there at all. We are in Northampton as well so if you fancy meeting up sometime to talk about Melbourne please pm me.

Love Gill, Phil and Harry (9)
