Hi and welcome to Poms in Oz from us as well!

We arrive in Victoria on the 14th September. We'll be staying with relatives in South Oakleigh to begin with and then hunting for a rental. We're looking around the top of the Mornington Peninsula,

Felicity

BARRY TALK TO LIMEYCHICK SHE'S LIVING IN MELBOURNE

I used to live in Melbourne nice place, but I lived on the east side of the city seems to be more jobs on the east side and houses seem to be cheaper also.talk to limeychick.I posted her things to do and see.

I'll be heading to Perth this time round.Perth and WA seems to be some place.Big but that big,and Melbourne always seemed to be fast that I would have liked it to be. Just over 2 million people live in WA and and in or around 1.7 million of them live in Perth the rest are in large towns along the coast of WA. I'm a welder by trade and I know there's work there for me.Plus I've got a mate and other friends in Perth. The feed back is always pos bar the heat waves. Hope to take off about mid April <<<< no later than the 2nd week, and if be there by that time.

Fred

Hi Barry and Val[COLOR
There's loads of us here on PIO heading out Melbourne way. We are hoping to go to Western Suburbs as house prices good, also get a few people posting on here who have settled in Point Cook/Sanctuary Lakes regions and seem to like it. Also Mornington Peninsula and Berwick seem to be popular too!

Have you been to Oz before? All the best,

Melbourne & Victoria Information

Hi Barry & Val,

I am also planning to move to Melbourne, probably not long after you. Talk about exciting!

I have been researching my move for 2 years now and as a result I have built a website containing more than 700 links related to Victoria. I think that it may help you in some way with deciding where to move. It may also help with other questions that you have.

Victoria StartPage

On the housing page you will find information about the suburbs, and the websites used to find homes to buy and rent. This will give you an idea as to which area you can afford.

Housing Page

On the home page you will find maps that determine the distance to the CBD. On the transport page you will find all the train, tram and driving info.

Transport Page

I hope this helps.

Lot of luck, and have fun!

Melbourne and Victoria Info

Hi,

I was was born and bred in Melbourne and until 2003 lived there (am currently in the UK), so I am happy to answer any and all questions regarding the city. My English wife and I are moving back in January, so are going through many of the same things as many people on this web site, we are in the middle of of applying for a spouse visa for her.

So if anyone has questions, please let me know. To answer some specifics about Werribee, Geelong and Berwick:

I lived in Werribee for 30 years, and worked in Geelong for 5 years or so during that time, so know a thing or two about them. Werribee is an hour on the train from flinders st station (Melbournes main train station), or about 45 minutes (on a good day) by car. The freeway between werribee and melbourne is high quality 4 lanes each way, but is busy at peak times. Geelong is another 30-40 mins further away via car, again the freeway is excellent - 3 lanes each way). the trains from melbourne to geelong are not electric, so leave from southern cross (spenser st) station, and take just over the hour. They stop a lot less than the suburban trains to werribee.

Generally the house prices in Werribee are lower in comparison to suburbs closer to Melbourne, I recenlty sold a 3 bedroom house for about £80,000, which was on a big block of land. this is true of most outer suburbs, including berwick.

Your decision to choose between werribee/berwick or geelong would depend largely on your work. Commuting to melbourne from werribee or berwick might get a bit tedious, but the job scene is a little better than in Geelong. Historically Geelong has had a slightly higher unemployment rate than melbourne generally. Having said that I know people that commute happily from melbourne - geelong every day and are happy.

Geelong also has the advantage of being on the doorstep of some of victorias best beaches on the west coast.

So, by all means fire the questions at me!!
