Bendigo/Castlemaine

Hi, can anybody help I have been semi offered a job in these areas. I am single and 39 years old. Its too far to commute from Melbourne I think. Does anybody have experience of these areas, and is there anything there socially??

Any help would be great thanks.

Hi Dullboy, (really think you should change your name) sorry no one has answered you Q, but i know nuffink bout Melbourne, sorry, try the search button an type the places your looking for if no luck have a go at looking all post's melbourne to get you some sort of idea, then if that dont work, look at the side bar to the left an go to the state of Melbourne.

If that dont work really, SORRY, but you never know someone might see that i've posted onto your thread an think what the hell is he doing and give you some GOOD ADVICE. Good luck what ever your wish is.............

I would go for Bendigo as it is much bigger.
It has been a while since i was there but they used to have an over 28s nite club
Most social activity is sport based

Hi there

We have lived in Castlemaine for 16 months. (We moved here from Kent). It is 1 hr 30 drive down to Melbourne although the new freeway should cut 10/15 min off that by 2009. Castlemaine is v friendly. BIG alternative/ Green community. Bendigo is another 30 mins North. Much bigger, one of the original mining towns. Pretty busy, lots of pubs but I don't know what they're like, we have young kids, don't get out at night much! It is a beautiful area and property is much cheaper than in Melbourne. My husband commutes to and from work in Melbourne on the train. They are supposed to be putting more trains on in the future as more people are moving up here. It is a bit of a culture shock after the UK - life is much slower up here....everything still shuts on Sundays!! But on the plus side there is no traffic or pollution up here and we have found all the locals to be great. so don't rule this area out. Good luck!
