How do you keep your homes warm out there, if you haven't got a fire place? Should we bring electric radiators with us!!!!!!!

I always thought your winter was like our summer. I'm glad I'm not coming for another 8 weeks, hopefully it will start to warm up by then.

Chris&Dave - where are you in the UK? Their winter is like our summer!! lol (in fact their winter is being particularly bad this year just to match up to the British summer)

We have ducted heating..........warm air that blows thro' vents in the ceilings and walls.........the same vents that blow the air con' thro' in the summer. Its instant and works ok. A lot of houses here do have log burners as well.

My son ran a ski lodge during the winter on Charlottes Pass for five years. Every year they had huge dumps of snow - up to about 4 metres.

Last year was the last time he was doing this, so I went out in September - such fun telling people I was going to Aus to ski!!!! But guess, what? Last year was the worst season they have had since the year dot. All that way and no snow!!

However, this year, it is all back to normal and they currently have about 3 mtrs.

And our summer is rubbish. Do you think someone is trying to tell me something?

Jean

Is it all us Brits taking the c**p weather with us. If so, STOP IT. I was hoping for better

Is the summer more regular than ours tough?? I can live with a bit of cold weather if I know the good stuffs on its way.

No one ever said Winters in Oz aren't cold, although it's a big place so how cold depends on where you are. The difference is that Winters here are short, (6 - 10 weeks, depending on where you live) and Summer is the dominate season with hot weather sometimes starting as early as August and going through to March or later.
You will definitely need jumpers, coats etc for most of the southeast even if you only wear them for a few weeks.
A lot of homes in the cooler regions have ducted heating or reverse cycle air conditioning with the air con getting much more use.
For the last 7 years much of the continent has been suffering from severe drought with higher than normal temps so a return to more normal, cooler weather with rain, which we've had in the southeast this season, has been more then welcome. Sydney's dams are currently at 57% capacity and we're on stage 3 water restrictions, see Mandatory Water Restrictions Brisbane is on stage 5. I think all the major centres except perhaps Darwin have water restrictions of some kind.
