You might like to try this website, www.travelvictoria.com.au. I think it's .com.au on the end - if not just do a google search on travel victoria. You can type in the area you are interested in and you'll be amazed at the information you'll find out and pictures you'll see.
I don't know anything about the area you mentioned, we're looking at Mornington area, Melbourne..........but just wondering if it is cheap there I would think there is a reason for that.
Hope you find out lots of good info.

THE JONEZYS will become famous soon enough
Pakenham is quite a rural, country area and is about an hour from the nearest beach.
We did look at this area when we first arrived but it's too far inland for us. There are a lot of new housing developements going on but it seemed a long way from everything else although I think there is a train line into the city.
We settled in Mornington in the end and love it.

The Joneseys are right.. Pakenham is way out there in the middle of nowhere. This may suit some people and housing is certainly more affordable. A train to the city would take at least an hour and 15 and it is a growth area with many of the popular builders creating new neighbourhoods.
