Heading for Mornington Peninsula....???

When I first joined this forum I noticed most people were heading for Perth or mainly Brisbane way and felt a bit left out... as if they new something I didnt!!
We had decided on Melbourne for loads of different reasons and Mornington was gonna be the place for us! But just of late I have noticed quite a few people now heading for Melbourne and the Mornington area in particular...............
Just being nosey really..... you can tell me to mind my own business, but I wondered what made u all choose Melbourne, how far u are down the visa line and what occupations you all have???............. My OH is a Plumber.
Thought the info might be handy too, you never know when u might need a brickie, plasterer, sparkie, mechanic etc., etc., etc.,

Cheers all
Sally-ann

Hi Sally-Ann

We're hopefully headed for Melbourne July 2008.

We'll be going on Stu's student visa hopefully as we didn't have enough points for skilled migration. We didn't choose Melbourne, it chose us, or....the course Stu wants to do (motor mechanic) is there. My daughter Jenna is also coming across to study (she is 17 at the mo and we're waiting for her to finish her Alevels next year). She has already been accepted on a course! We're very excited. Only got experience of Perth, but what the heck, he who dares wins Rodney!!! And like someone else says on here, you'll never never know if you never never go!

Cheers!

Hi Sally-Ann,
We are heading to Melbourne, not sure where exactly yet but are looking at Point Cook and surrounding areas. We chose melbourne as our visa is a provisional 496 which is being sponsored by my brother in law who lives in Melbourne.I think we would have chosen Melbourne anyway for a variety of reasons,a bit cooler,seasons,shopping,multi-cultural,comes across a bit more cultural than some parts of Oz and seems to have everything we could hope for in so many ways with the climate and landscapes to go with it.The scary part is we have never been so it might not be any of that,I don't think that this will be the case, but then who cares as if its not there is bound to be somewhere else that is what we are looking for.

Hopefully we will find out what its like soon as we have completed everything now bar the Meds which are next Wednesday and I am worried about them as they are the final hurdle.

So here hoping for the best for everyone who is going through this process which will take us to a new beginning.

Fingers crossed.

Good Luck

Hi Sally-Ann

We decided to head for the Mornington Peninsula for a couple of reasons, one being the weather, I think if you have to work then the Melbourne climate is a bit easier to work in.Also for work, I am a mechanical fitter specialising in Platic bottle blowing .A work colleagues of mine is also going to MP and his friend who lives in Mount Martha says there is plenty of work in my line in this area.At the moment I work For Coca Cola and will try to get work there if possible in Moorabin. Also heard there is a big industrial area at Moorabin.
Also we have interneted and read up on this area and it looks and sounds wonderful and everything we want, especially to live by the sea and not to be too far from the city.
Hope to be there in Jan 08.
Tra sent March
Visa all ready to go

Hope to hear from you again and who knows we might meet one day.

Neil,Tracey & Hayleigh.

Well, really we are going to Melbourne because at the time I applied for my visa my skills were not in demand and we didn't have enough points. However, Victoria were offering people with my skills STNI visas. We originally wanted to be around the Sydney area, but the more I read up on Melbourne, the more I like the look of it and now I don't think I would want to go anywhere else.

I would love to move to the Mornington Peninsula, but I will probably work in the CBD and so I want to minimise my commute. I think we will make a final desicion on this when we get there!

Hi Sally Anne (&everybody else)

We are heading to Mornington mainly due to the fact that hubbys closest friend went out in Feb last year and loves it. In my heart I would love to go to Brisbane but my head (and hubby) tells me to go to Melbourne so that we have a ready made support network around us, think we will appreciate it for those first few months.

Hubby has worked for a Renault dealer as a mechanic for the last 17 years and apparently there are 2 within a 20 minutes drive of Mount Eliza, so fingers crossed, once the TRA has been passed we will contact them and see if they would be interested in taking him on. Don't know what we'll do if they say no but I'm not worrying about that yet, got too many other things to stress me out at the mo !

Will be nice if everybody heading out that way could keep in touch.

Really pleased to see this! We like the MP and had noted that loads of people on this site were in Brissy - glad to see we're not going totally wrong here and melbourne's still got it too!

My OH will be a plumber too competing for jobs! (thouh reckon there's enough for everyone!)

I like the look of Hastings but we've decided on a really decisive reccie next year to choose a suburb for sure.

My company has a temporary office in Collins Street in Melbourne. It's permanent staus there depends on whether we win contracts. The amount I've researched it, I already feel like I'm a Melbournian.

We're looking at Point Cook. Krista lives nearby and has been very helpful with descriptions of facilities there. It sounds great. People talk about Melbourne's weather being varied and unpredictable, but looking at the weather records, the rainfall is a fraction of what we get in Yorkshire.

I love what I have read about the multicultural tolerance there, and the culture in general.

However, if we had the choice, we might well choose Alelaide, as I understand the weather is a bit calmer, and the property is cheaper.

Where ever we go I'm itching to get on with it.

Spock.
