Advice needed on Truganina, Werribee etc - help please......

 Hi everyone! I found this site a couple of days ago and have learnt so much in such a short space of time. My wife and I (with 2 kids 6 & 8) have started to fill out the app forms to emigrate to Oz. Problem is, we are very concerned over where best to live to provide the kids with good government run primary/junior and secondary schools. So far, I have looked at Truganina, Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit and Werribee.
Can anyone please provide honest opinions on living in these areas and what the schooling is like. Any comments, whether negative or positive will be greatfully appreciated. Kind regards. :D :D :D :D

Government (State) run primary schools are all pretty good. I sent all three of my kids to Bellbridge PS (Hoppers Crossing).

I have friends have have sent kinds to State and Catholic primaries and all are fairly happy.

State secondary Schools are another matter.

I chose to send my kids to the local Catholic Secondary College (in Tarneit).

The state high School in Werribee (Werribee Secondary College) gets a very good name and reputation... Hoppers Crossing Secondary.... well... I considered it and rejected it. (My personal view, I am sure others may feel differently).

Galvin Park Secondary gets mixed reviews, but seems to do OK.

Thank you very much for your comments. You confirmed my thoughts on Werribee Secondary College. I did also look at Galvin Park and noticed they were pretty much low down in the league tables (which was a little worrying). I will certainly look into Bellbridge PS - will also need to find out which primary schools feed into Werribe Secondary College. :D

Nelson is on a distinguished road
Hi there! We have recently moved to Melbourne and settled in Sanctuary Lakes, which absolutely delightful. One of our children got a place at Werribee Secondary College and the other at Carranballac College. It is early days yet but I have discovered that my daughter was very lucky to get an unconditional place at Werribee. Both are really happy.

In short, I was paying a fortune for education in U.K. and now I pay nothing. So far, I am really pleased with what the schools are doing but, as I say, it's early days yet.

I think the values we try to uphold at home are continued through at school and that is my main concern. There appears to be a kind of naivity in the Oz children (no offence intended) which I find really endearing. My children's former schools had strict uniform policy, so they haven't batted an eyelid at the uniforms here but I find it difficult to reconcile 16 year old girls with white ankle socks and sandle type shoes that I wore 40 odd years ago (the sort that have a pattern stamped out of them).. I think children used to trousers and sweatshirt type uniforms might balk at the dresses and blazers, but I have to say, they do look smart!

If you want any more info, do say and I'll try my best. Good luck!

Hi Krista,

Thanks for your comments - really appreciated. You mentioned about an unconditional place at Werribee - does this mean there were certain criteria/admissions policy to obtain a place there (I have emailed the college but have had no response yet.........).

Thank you for your kind assistance.

Regards.

Hi,

We moved to Truganina approx 11 months ago from uk, it is a very new area but, everything is nearby. I have a 15 year old daughter who goes to Thomas Carr College which is a catholic private school, we have found it to be excellent, her grades have greatly improved since we have been here they are very strict on the rules as well, which i think is good as it gives boundaries.

My son is 11 years and goes to one of the state primary schools called Derrimutt Heath Primary in Hoppers, again I find this to be a very school with an excellent reputation.

Hope this helps,

Angie
