What is Mornington like? Have you had any surprises (good or not so good?)
Chin up
Andy
Hi Andy
You will love Mornington, the beach is beautiful, there are loads of restuarants and cafe's where you sit on the street and have coffee etc, the views are amazing when you drive higher up, driving in Oz can be very trying, they are very selfish drivers and will not give way to anybody, on the the occasions I have given way I just get really strange looks from the driver, UK drivers are a lot more generous.
They are very hot on drink drivers and speeding cars which is good, it is not law that you have to have car insurance in Victoria which I find really strange, but I strongly advise it, they also do not have MOT's here but it is your duty to make sure your car is road worthy.
We did find second hand car's very expensive compared to the UK, so have a really good look around.
Anyway, let me know if you have any other questions.
Hi Mo,
all being well :!: we should be in Melbourne by about October.
I have sent you a PM a few days ago but not sure if you got it :?:
Anyway, we thought we had decided on Berwick/Pakenham areas but the more we read about Mornington the more we like the sound of this area too. Our main worries are that it will be too quite for our older two-18/19 and if there will be enough work out that way for OH, who like yours is a Brickie. We also have a 7 year old who will be happy anywhere that has a football team he can join  We are going to rent a place out your way to give us some idea before we make a decision on where to buy. Any tips/advice would be very welcome.
Lesley
Have pity on us :) We're now counting in weeks, not months. We're desperately trying to work out if we'll make it for Daisydeeds birthday on the 1st October because that's also our sponsor's wedding anniversary. I'm also trying to work out if I can squeeze an extra week's work in (500 quid is 500 quid ;-)). We're still stuck in "can't do anything but wait" limbo, but it's so very very close.
You're probably just recovering from all that stress! :)

Hi there......
Congratulations & good luck on your arrival to Oz... I do hope it was worth the wait?
I've only just joined the forum & have loved reading everyones experiences & top tips. Me & the family (hubby,4 kids ages 10,12,14 & 15) have just started the long & stressful process to live in Oz (awaiting TRA news, then full aplication can go in).
Noticed you have recently settled in Mornington.... it was one of the places we were thinking of settling along with Frankston South. How are you finding it all........... area, people, schools, shops etc. I believe you can get loads for your money house wise (we will need min 4bed place!) but ive heard conflicting stories about the cost of living, food etc.? Any chance you can give me the insiders low down on how far your dollar goes out there? (Never far enough i should imagine when youve got kids!!!) Thanks & hope to hear soon :)
We have been looking at properties on www.realestate.com.au. If u key in Mornington the search criteria, it brings up loads of properties. It might give you some ideas on prices and what you get for your money, property wise.
Hi Joanne.......
Cheers for the real estate tip............... I've turned into a real "saddo" lately spending so much time on the computer, now ive got loads of lovely house to look at, I'll never get off it.......... my ironing will never get done!!!! Are you in the process of deserting the UK too?
Regards Jonsey
I too have a V. large pile of ironing being done on a need to wear basis.LOL!
We have only just started the process and are already day dreaming. We found a 3 bed, 2 bath, 1000 sq mtr house with outdoor spa in mornington for around £145,000 (GBP) on that website - think that was minimum, sounded too good to be true !! OMG, that was the motivation we needed to carry on with the TRA which has been really, really hard work.
Should be ready to send it off early next week and then the wait begins .
