Marine Insurance for shipping household goods

Just had an excellent quote from a nice man called Brian Norton of Letton Percival (tel:0151 236 4568). He quoted 1.5% of the goods value + 5% of the premium total in tax. The figures that I have been getting up till now have been based on 3% + loads of add ons which should be covered anyway. For example, if you are offered mould and mildew cover and are having your goods professionally packed, the packers should be taking the mould and mildew risk into account when they pack...

Hope this makes sense and that some of you can benefit!

Hiya,

Thanks for the shipping info. We won't be going until 2007 but are wanting to understand the costs, pitfalls and traumas of shipping goods as we are undecided whether to just go light and start from scratch or lug it all over.

Good luck with your move. Where abouts in Victoria are you planning on settling? I come from Melbourne originally, born and bred in Ringwood, eastern suburbs but we'll be settling in rural Victoria, the lovely undulating dairy country of Sth Gippsland, on the way down to beautiful Phillip Island and Wilson's Promintory. My husband's choice as he thinks it will be like village life here. Mmmm? I don't think so Tim!

If you want a bit of moral support while you are settling in just let me know. I'm good at that kind of thing, plus I talk for England, even though I'm an Aussie, ha!

Regards,

Marion

Hey! Thanks Marion! Good to know there are nice people out there! We are travelling with a very open my and, as my skill is very portable, we could settle anywhere..

We expect to look as far west as Torquay and to the East and south east, as far as Blind Bight.

Getting really excited now!

Thanks for your support!

Krista
