When we went to Aus in May we went to all the areas which where near the beaches like: Williamstown,Altona,St Kilda. The areas are nice especially if you have children,houses seem to be reasonable depends on what you are looking for.
If you are looking for a House next to the beach you could be paying more than the ones a view streets back.
The cafes and the Shops in these areas are very nice small but reasonable.
What we have been told about the Schools in the area are all good as we have 11yrs old Twins who will be going to High School when we arrive hopefully at the end of this year 2007.
Have you considered looking at Point Cook and Sanctuary Lake? even though its not near any beaches but this area has its own Lakes for the residents to use.
Alison you have noted that you are from Bonny scotland, where about?
As i myself was from scotland (Fife, Dunfermline) but now live in Bristol.
