Family life

Hi
We're hoping to move to Australia :) next year, hubby Paul, myself and 4 children 14,12,9 and 3. We're aiming for Victoria, hubby's a brickie. We would like to live on the coast as we jetski and Paul would like to get back into windsurfing. The boys both go off roading on their motorbikes so we'd like some ideas on best place to relocate in Victoria as it seems vast.
Many Thanx
:D Angie :D

A coastal town I would recommend checking out, is Torquay.

http://www.greatoceanroad.org/surfco...quay/index.asp

This place has everything you could want + more - Plenty of beaches are within reach, including the world famous Bells Beach, which annually hosts a world surfing comp, the Rip Curl Challenge. (most in the know say it's the best surfing beach in the world) - so the kids will love that!

There are also heaps of places to go jet sking, wind sailing & the Hinterlands are nearby for bushwalks etc. It's situated at the start of the Great Ocean Rd, which is probably the prettiest area in Aus, and personally my favourite.

However, much like in any coastal town, finding work close by will be a challenge. Geelong, which is a larger town 15 mins drive away, could present for some employment oppourtunites, or of course, Melbourne is about 80 mins drive away.

Rental prices look quite reasonable -

Or to buy, looks on par with Melbourne prices-

Hi ya, we are also off to Vicotria and boyfriend is a brickie, we got state sponsorship, tickets are booked for 19 February (ofcouse with a month in Thailand on route) landing in Melbourne 21 March have to be there before 31 March. Seems like the place for brickies to be, Auz seems to be crying out for themm, Mark is so glad he finished his City and Guilds, hoping that when we get there we will make hay whilst the sun shines. Mark really wants to get there and get a gang to work for him asap.

ll the best in your application, Bet

Hi ya, once my other half got his reference for his trade to be recognised, we applied immediately and it took approx 6 weeks, once we got both trade and state sponsorship confirmed we made our DIMIA applciation which took about 3 months. The thing I found took the longest was getting all Marks references, paperwork together, well you kow what brickies are like never work in one place for to long.

Good luck in you application, Melbourne is by far the best city in Auz, can't wait to get their 5 months and counting.

Hi Bet
how did you go about getting Marks reference and his trade recognised, because my hubby Paul did an apprenticeship to become a bricklayer so has no certificates but has got his CSCS gold card. Any help would be appreciated
Many Thanx

Don't quote me but I think you have to prove that you have been doing the trade for a specific time, I think 7 out of ten years, or it may be less, sorry, don't think you defo need to have your apprenticeship as long as you can prove your experience, we used an agent so they sort of pointed us inthe direction of what to provide - and hey with them being desperate for brickies can't see it being a prob.

I know that we had major probs as you know what it is like being a brickie working for different firms, self employed, contractors etc oh yeah and being unemployed, all we done was got as many reference from companies etc as we could and in relation to gaps completed declarations which have to be signed by solicitor, I have got the one mark used if you need a copy, also he got declarations from private clients he done extensions for etc, and yeah even took pictures of work he had done, sad I know, we even got declarations from Marks accountant,I think anything helps and we got our visas.

Good luck my dear, all the best, if you need any further help let me know, might not have the correct answers but should be able to point you in right direction having been through it earlier this year.

:P :P :P

Hi Bet
Thanx for that
We've just filled in STNI visa application what do we do now?
Pauls getting references from his 10 percenters and other clients over the past 9 years.
Paul and the children are so excited, trying to keep them quiet just in case we're not succesful, is driving me mad.
I am hoping to qualify as a midwife when we are out there, tried here in the last year but its impossible because of government cut backs- not enough midwives to supervise students!!!
Thanx again
 Angie
