Family flights

Hi
Does anyone know if any travel agents/airlines do special offers on flights for people who have family members in Oz? It's just that my Mum was asking - she is concerned about the cost of flights and coming to visit us when we move to Perth in the New Year. She mentioned that they do cheap deals for family members in Canada, as my cousin lives there and my Auntie visits him once or twice a year - the family deals make it affordable.

Any ideas so I can let Mum know (and put her mind at rest)!

Not heard of this, my dad has had to pay ordinary price. I'd be interested to find out as it may save my dad a bit of money

Hi Both

Charter flights might be cheaper than the scheduled airlines but I wouldn't eexect a charter flight to be anything like as comfortable.

Also, bear in mind that if the plane packs up, a scheduled airline is required to provide accomoodation and food in a decent hotel if the flight is going to be delayed for more than about 4 hours. Charter operators do not have this rule, so one is on one's own if the plane should break down.

Wendy, does your mother own her own house or flat? If so then her best best is probably to get a long stay tourist visa for, say, 6 months and letting her property whilst she is away. That would defray the costs of the trip to Oz and it would also help to deter burglars and squatters. This is how we have dealt with the costs for my own mother's travels back & forth to Oz for a number of years.

if your mum is on the internet, tell her to look at the emerits web site.they often have cheap flights on offer.i have just booked a one way flight to perth,flying from newcastle for £491.the return was only £742.i have flown with them last year and they are a great airline.i go on 7th dec.which is their peak time,i believe.
