2016: Australia to UK Shipping

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum. I've had a good root around and there's lots of info on Oz to UK shipping, but less and less recent info on Oz to UK.

I thought I'd start a thread to capture updated info. Please take part if you have recent info to share.

My house: town house, four beds and garage. My family, two adults and three kids under 5.

So far, I've asked got quotes from Grace and Sevenseas MoveCube.

Grace quoted to $8000 including packing. This was for what they termed as 122 items (one box is 1 item, one transit pac is 4 or 8 items etc -not sure yet what a transit pac is). Seems to be a door to door service, with unloading on both sides, including up two stories for our flat in Glasgow).

MoveCube was more like $3000k, where they just dump a MoveCube (Large:Height 1.871m Width 1.464m Length 2.264m Volume 6.20m³) outside your house, ship it to the South of England and then organise a separate company to drive it to your location.

Clearly, it's not a like for like comparison, but I've asked for quotes from Crown and Kent based on recommendations in this forum. I'll update as I go.

Cheers,

M

Often this sort of thing is posted about and discussed in our Moving Back to the UK area of the forum. I know the subject comes up from time to time.

Hi all, for what it's worth, here's my update. We've decided against taking any furniture. For what we've got (cheap and functional) it is cheaper or similar to buy new stuff that to ship it.

We're down to 10 cub meters (estimated). The two best quotes so far are from Kent ($3600) and Crown ($4500). We liked the service from Crown better as we had a nice bloke come out and have a look around and took the time to understand our requirements well. Kent did not do a home visit. However, it's hard to justify the extra $900 with Crown.

Grace were not as good. They wanted to fit us into their solution, and when they got the message that we weren't taking furniture, were still much more expensive ($5500).

So, we'll probably go with Kent.

Cheers,

M

Hi There

Just been given a link to your thread - we are doing the move from Perth to England soonish - depends on house sale and going through the whole issue of do we take or not and who do we use. Did you end up using Kents? I'm aware of Kents, Crown and Santa FE (Wridgways) through work so I don't want to contact them yet as it needs to be kept confidential.

Kents do seem to come up cheaper when I send the quotes at work - but I never hear much about the actual details side of things.

Have you actually moved and how did it go? We are probably going to need goods shipped to Peterborough area and then find work.

Any tips advice / guidance? Hopefully you're still reading and involved on the forum to give some feedback.

cheers

We used PSS moving to Australia in 2012, they were not too bad. We did have a couple of breakages (approx. $300 worth) but had used Insureyourmove and they paid out without much bother. We moved back this year and as we dumped most of our furniture we did not have a full container so Chose MoveCube & were not happy with performance see following.

I would also say MoveCube is for small moves, if you put furniture in you soon fill it up. Measure out in your house & see the size. Maybe also consider whats worth selling & replacing !

Plus points

Load your own MoveCube (Ply wood crate). -Peace of mind although this will not suit every one

Hopefully belongings do not need to be opened & examined before they are received at destination.

(This is maybe debatable as customs may access but ours seemed untouched from us packing).

Similar price to a removals firm whom complete packing and supply packing materials

Negative points

Move cube was supplied for 90 min (not 3 hrs) as had other jobs on the day, (although this was sufficient it was rushed and we did not have time to check through the property before trailer departed, later found quite a few things which should have been packed & so had to be disposed of).

Goods did not leave Australia for over seven weeks after collection.

71 - 87 days is quoted as expected delivery time but read the small print, this is from full payment which we made 4 days after collection and other exclusions. Our goods were collected on 27th May and eventually delivered on 6th Sept. Overall time of 104 days which was a long time to live out of a suitcase (91 days by Seven seas calculations!). This cost us a considerable amount as items such as clothing for a wedding which we had expected to have arrived had to be replaced.

Poor communication, information not updated unless asked for. Call backs not made after regular inquiries over the period of delivery. (Excluding one assistant _Wendy in the UK).

more poor communication on site inspection, not made on time - call backs not made following enquiries & eventually told we did not even need to be present after we had stayed in all morning !

Overall service was pretty poor and not really needed on top of the stress of moving around the World again.
