Chall77 Posted July 23, 2014 Share Posted July 23, 2014 I have seen and heard plenty about the rigours that things can be put under when shipping your stuff out to Oz but I have a good tent and want to bring it. I'm going to disinfect the bottom of it but is that enough? Has anyone got experience of this and if so, please drop me a line! I'm also looking to bring some fishing gear. Guest Guest 47403 Posted July 23, 2014 Share Posted July 23, 2014 All our camping gear is currently sat in the companies warehouse John Mason have delivering it this end, it's awaiting the quarantine examination which is scheduled for the 28th, we didn't bring the tent for two reasons we intend to buy a camper trailer and it was quite old anyway..................what berth is yours? Could it go through a cold wash at the launderette (one of the big washers for duvets)? Then get put up sprayed with Zoflora inside left to dry and then packed? tonyman Posted July 23, 2014 Share Posted July 23, 2014 Chall , if you like your tent and going to clean it as you say then bring it but believe me , camping gear is go big and affordable here that you will probs end up replacing your old tent .........the tents are massive .......then you have you other kitchen tent to pitch .......we actually had 2 bar fridges , micro wave , food parlour all in a tent of its own , beer Esky , cooking area , two en-suit toilets and showers ...was a great family camping holiday .....some may say that's not camping but with two new borns it was and now we are wanting to venture out some more ...a great way to see this lovely land we have ........... Shipping in a month's time & have quite a lot of camping gear (tent, wind break, chairs etc.) which we don't really want to leave behind, especially as we'll have space in our MoveCube for it. No idea if it's going to get through quarantine, but we basically wiped down everything (inside & out) with anti-bacterial wipes, getting rid of any soil etc Fingers crossed! If in doubt, camping here is massive, and prices on good camping gear is reasonable, and basic camping gear is very cheap. when we go camping, we are similar to tonyman, we have LED light strips, esky's, battery boxes for power, 2 fridges, massive canvas tent etc etc. camping aussie style is definitely a lot different to European camping if you are heading bush (normally free camping as well BTW) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

furkew Posted July 24, 2014 Share Posted July 24, 2014 My idea of camping is to take a swag and live out of the back of the jeep. The wife does like her luxuries. Admittedly we are normally an hours drive from the nearest stores somewhere in the bush camped next to the Murray, so having as much on hand makes it a bit more comfortable. Horses for courses, if you go to Big W or Target, then the tent is not going to be good quality but its going to be cheap, for example a 4 berth dome tent for about $50. At the other end of the spectrum, you can get a top of the range super luxury 8 berth 'Turbo' tent for around $1300 at camping specialist shops, I've found that the same tents cost almost double in the UK. There are a couple of streams in the Warren area (Pemberton, Tone River) that hold trout and a few places that hold redfin (Perca fluviatis). The Swan River has some goodly bream and flathead but that's about all. Find the same item anywhere in stock in a store and they will match the price. I was researching prices a couple of years back, and found what I wanted in NSW in a camping store with online ads. I knew that Anaconda also sold the same brand, so I dropped in to see how much they were asking. The NSW store was asking $799.00 and Anaconda was $1195.00. When I commented to the sales assistant about the difference, he asked for the details on where the tent was being sold. I've seen sofas with side tables and lamps, full size fridges and freezers, blow up out door theatres, and that's besides the boats, the kayaks the fishing rods, I learn something new every trip, I love it!!
