So I am making the move (finally) to Hobart 2yrs after deciding that's where I wanted to be and 6 months after moving to Australia!! Work have me in a hotel to begin with, but then need a place to rent, single male looking for min 2 bed place looking at max $500 /week with pref walking (can be a 20-30 min walk) from the CBD any ideas??

That rental limit should give you plenty of scope.

I'd do a search with your parameters for Hobart and surrounding suburbs -

That will probably produce choices within Hobart city itself, Battery Point, Sandy Bay, Dynnyrne, South Hobart, West Hobart, North Hobart, New Town, maybe even parts of Mt. Stuart which would be within a 20 or 30 minute walk of the CBD.
Battery Point will probably be the most expensive because it is the most desirable, but be aware parts of it can be noisy at night - close to the entertainment area of Salamanca. Check them all with an eagle eye to heating. Some of the older houses in particular have high ceilings, don't get much sunlight and can be cold and draughty in winter.
