I have just found this forum and am quite excited to be here.
I see that there are many Meet & Greet, relocation companies around. Some new, some old. Can anyone share with me their stories on the companies they used? Price and value for money is my biggest worry.
I have been in touch with a company called ARS relocations. (Welcome to A.R.S Relocation Services) and they do seem to know what they are doing. They offer a large service package from meet and greet all the way through to helping with bank accounts, tax numbers, the works and the price is not that bad at all.
Would love to hear your stories.
good luck to all those relocating.
Do you think you need to pay someone to do those things ?
You can open a bank account online before you leave, so that you only need to turn up at the branch with your proof of id etc when you get there.
Also, you can apply for your tax file no. online. We have ours already.
For me, the most important things are things you need to do yourself- house rental, buying a car anyway ! Guess it's all part of the adventure.
Suppose it depends on what they charge and if you think it's worth it
Hi if you look on the government site of south australia they offer a service of meet and greet, voluntary people meet greet you and help u etc, They have forms that you fill in
to request is for migrating people like us

Hi
The service the government offer is good, but limited, as any service run solely by volunteers would be I guess. We have been in touch with a company called Home2Home Settlements, they seem really professional and friendly, and have really helped us in the whole process, so when we finally arrive in Adelaide, we will be met by someone that we actually know (We went to their stand at one of the shows recently in Surrey and met the lady who runs the company), and as she offers an ongoing service, we will have someone to call once we're there with questions and stuff. For us, I definitely think the service is worth the money, but everyone is different. Have a look at their website and see what you think. Oh, I think it's Home 2 Home Settlements

hi essexgirl, honestly, you do not need this service. Things are straight forward, yes there is red tape, but it's the same in uk. When we came here we knew no one, 2 kids, 4 bags, no jobs, but we took one step at a time and had no problems, frustration, yes!! but only because everything was a learning experience. good luck with everything. x
Hi PJW
I see what you are saying, and well done for doing it all yourselves, but for me, research is such a big part of the preparation for moving my family halfway across the world, and I really want it to work, so for me, it is 100% worth it to have the help of Judy at Home 2 Home - she has given us so much help, looked into accommodation and car hire options for us, sent us maps and details about suburbs, sent us schools prospectusses, found out about job possibilities and really just been our 'ear to the ground' in Adelaide. I am sure it is perfectly possible to do it all yourselves, but I have two young children and I know from this and other forums how much there is to get sorted out in the first few months - I would rather have less stress and be able to relax and enjoy my first few weeks in a new country with my family, rather than spend days and days driving around randomly with two bored kids in the car! For us, it is worth it, but obviously I can only speak for myself!

Each to their own really with this type of thing. Some of us do not have the time to do tons of research and it is nice for someone who is "in the know" to be able to say whats what! We relied on my mums cousin when we arrived and basically just "went with everything " she suggested. Now three years on we can make changes made on our own judgements!!
