Whatever works for you is great!

However,I think most people manage without help. Like Paula we knew no-one and nothing, but found it easy enough. I think it's easy to blow it all up out of proportion and it is a huge undertaking if you think of it in terms of re-creating your whole life in a new country. That said, most of it should just fall into place. For example, you know you'll need somewhere to live, and if you can't get On Arrival Accomodation (basic but brilliant!), then obviously that's the first thing to attend to. Once you get here, job hunting is the same as in the UK. You will need a tax file number, but that's easy enough to apply for, other forms will be given to you by your employer and people here are usually more than happy to help.

As for schools and areas, maps and other people's experience is fab, but limited. I really think that the only way to get a feel for the place is to relax and look. Make your own mind up; different people have different perceptions on things. Meet and Greet can be really good, particularly if 'your' volunteer has been here many years/is Australian and provide a friendly (and free!) face at the airport.

I think forums like this, PiA and AdBrits (or does that count as a 'bad' word!)are fantastic. People are only too ready to help out and you can learn a lot - including recommendations for car rental/service providers etc. I reckon if you ask, you'll find someone with an answer/opinion. The forums also offer gatherings and social stuff which will help you feel at home and a bit more connected.

I'm sure there are some fantastic companies out there, but I know we've met a couple that seem more like ex-pats than Aussies. Whatever! Who knows?!
I'm sure H2H will work well for you, and if it makes you feel more comfortable about your move, then why not?
Good luck to you!
