Heading out there for a search for work!!! Help!!

As the heading suggests - yep am heading out to Adelaide to source some possible/potential work ............................. after a commitment from somebody in the carpet trade be it for me to do floor fitting or sales/management! Thus allowing me and the family to carry on with our dream and application to get over to Aus to start a new life.

We have an agent who says if I source a commitment from a potential employer then they can do all the legwork for us and them................................

Need some pointers from anyone with regards to

a)cheap accommodation options for just over a week whilst I search around.
b)should I look at car hire or will reliance of public transport be enough for out and about in Adelaide??
c)any super friendly helpful employment agencies that are recommended to approach?
d)dya think I should pack a cap as I am quite bald now and worried about sunburn??

Really looking forward to the adventure and the challenge. This has been presented to us due to the pathway D changes and we cant afford to wait around for it to be maybe reintroduced. We set the wheels in motion to move over to Aus and now my sister is going in April this year and brother in law in May - so we really dont want to be left behind.

I am a complete grafter - want to work hard and not expecting Aus to have golden pathways - wherever you are in the world you have to work to achieve. Just soooooooo frustrating the the options for us to get in have become to much more of a challenge! Anyway enough of the moaning! Any guidance, pointers, help would be very much appreciated....................................... .......wish me luck folks..

Martin!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi martin

sorry cant help but wishing you lots of luck

and i would take plenty of sun cream and a hat

i would get a car as you can have a good look around all the area's and give you some idea as to where you would like to move to and have a look around some of the houses that are up for rent.

i wish we could go over to check the area's first but will have to wait.

all the best

julie

Good luck on your trip to Adlaide.

We found when we were over in Australia that the best and cheapest form of accommodation was in the motels rather than hotels.

Hiring a car is probably a better alternative than relying on public transport even if you get one for just a few days.

Definately get ahat if you are anything like my hubby your bald spot will definately burn oooch

Hi Martin,

my husband has just had contact with a helpful employment agent in Adelaide. He is with Home Page - Corus People Solutions and here are his details:
Terry Harders
Senior Consultant

Level 1, 219 Gouger Street Adelaide SA 5000
t | 08 8221 7111 f | 08 8221 5700 m | 0434 652 068 e |terryh@corus-sa.com.au

I don't know if he will be able to help, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to email him.
Cara

PS. Definately pack a cap if you plan on heading out soon! My friend says they had temperatures in the 40s last month. Better to be safe than sorry.

Hiya Martin

I'd definitely have a hat - the wider brim the better + loads of high factor sun cream.

Certainly consider a rented car, most places you may be able to get to but I'll bet my last Dollar there will be an awkward one + it does give you flexibility.
Perhaps have a look at this company,I've had dealings with them.

Car Hire Adelaide / Cheap Adelaide Car Rental in South Australia / Australia / Aussie Car Rentals Car Rental in South Australia

I'd recommend you talk to Sandy Coates at Global TradeSearch,an ex pat who has just found someone I know a great job.

Sandy@globaltradesearch.com.au

Most central accommodation around the city will cost a minimum of $100 per night I'd say.

:)

Hi,

Adelaide is such a big place with everything spread out, then car hire is the better option if you are travelling around.
I find public transport to be good, especially the trains, so if you are just popping in and out of the city then maybe it would be cheaper to go by public transport.

Why not hire a car just for a couple of days when you get here, to find your barings, then take it from there.

Good luck and have fun!
