[quote=just jo;191456]I wasn't going to post because Diane had mentioned quite a bit but been there before has annoyed me. That is a perfect example of an area based on personal opinion. As with all suburbs there are good and bad bits, that doesn't just mean Salisbury Heights, I'm sure there a parts of the wonderous Adelaide Hills that been there before would give a miss. The important thing to remember is what will suit you, work wise this area would be good for you and the majority of the schools are good and you have a great choice. Incidently we left Modbury to come to Salisbury Heights.

I live in Salisbury Heights, I love it, so peaceful and quiet, it feels like the country but you are actually only minutes from suburbia. you also get more for your money here as well. The view from my driveway is magnificent as I am on the very top part of salisbury Heights. Greenwith, the suburb next to us is much more expensive. Bigger houses on bigger lots here, Greenwith is much newer whereas SH is more established. There are plenty of shopping centres, Parabanks in Salisbury, The Village at Golden Grove, Tea Tree plaza at Modbury. Waterworld is only 10 minutes drive away, 3 pools and a waterslide. Only 30 minutes of so and you are in the Adelaide Hills, though if you want beaches, our nearest beach Semaphore is probably 30 minutes drive and Glenelg 45 minutes drive. to get good surf you are looking at Port Norlunga and down south, good hour in the car.
Schools, , Most primary schools here go from Reception to year 7.

Salisbury Heights Primary http://www.shsr7.sa.edu.au/
friends of ours kids when through there and they were very happy.

The catchment high school is probably Salisbury East http://www.salseast.org/
I don't know too much about it but again our friends kids when through there and they were very pleased. Her eldest girl came away this year with excellent results.

Gulfview Heights is another nice suburb, though if you are buying in the new bit check the drainage, its very hilly and when we do get rain it can be a problem. gulfview Heights primary is very small so good teacher to child ratio. http://www.ghps.sa.edu.au/ My friend just moved her daughter there and likes it.

I'm guessing that the High School would be depending on which part you buy in either Salisbury High School (different to East) http://www.salisburyhigh.sa.edu.au/ or Para Hills http://www.phhs.sa.edu.au/
I hear Salisbury High is excellent, they have a waiting list for out of catchment. i couldn't comment on Para hills though have friends who went there as kids.

Golden Grove is a lovely suburb, there is a wide range of houses from the affordable to the million dollar range. Its getting very popular with the brits, the primary school is very good and there are plenty of english kids there
http://www.goldengps.sa.edu.au/plain/index1.htm living in Golden Grove will give you automatic entry to Golden Grove high School http://www.goldengrovehs.sa.edu.au/

this High School is surrounded by 2 private schools and shares facilities that the private schools funded. There is a state of the art Drama studio, home economics, woodworking and metal working departments. The school is just across the road from the Village Shopping centre and bus routes so easy to get home. The village also has a bowling alley, swimming lesson centre, arts & recreation centre for basketball, netball etc. Banks, fast food, restaurants and every other shop for you every need. There is also a skate/BMX park in Golden Grove, conveniently situated next to the Police Station. You can also get a bus straight into the city from Golden Grove on the park and Ride auto bann. The buses run on tracks for part ofthe journey, usually takes about 25 minutes to get to the city. Golden Grove is leafy and spread out, i really like it.

My eldest daughter goes to a private school at Wynn Vale, in between Golden Grove and Gulfview heights. Its called Kings Baptist Grammar School http://www.kingsbaptist.sa.edu.au/ It cost roughly $1100 a term, books are about $300 forthe year and uniform on top. There are 3 other private schools the two surrounding Golden Grove High, Pedare Christian College http://www.pedarecc.sa.edu.au/ and Gleeson Catholic College http://www.gleeson.sa.edu.au/ Gleeson starts from year 8. The rest from Reception. there is also a private shool in Salisbury Tyndale Christian College http://www.tyndale.sa.edu.au/default.php also from Reception.

It is a good side of Adelaide, if houses in my road are selling for $500 - 650,000 each, it must be really rough !!!!!!!!!! I'd like to know where the large council estates are near my part of Salisbury Heights. Parts of Salisbury are not as nice as others for instance I wouldn't live in Salisbury Plain, Park, Downs or North, however Salisbury East is perfectly livable. Yes its true Elizabeth and Daveren Park are about 15 minutes up Main North Road from here and parts are rough but Andrews Farm and Burton are a damm sight closer to those estates and are being touted as the dream estates of the North East. If you want something with a little history I'd have a look at Gawler, just 20 minutes drive further north than the dreaded Elizabeth. There are some beautiful properties up there on big lots with loads of land.

if you want anymore info, please feel free to ask.

Jo

WOW - Thats a great bit of info....................you have answered lots of questions for us - we were just about to ask for info on areas and more so High Schools in Adelaide and there you go its all here. Fantastic ..................may have to ask loads more off of ya if thats ok! We have to put a portfolio of our plans for children for a court case we are going through - ie plans of where we would like to live and schools we have as options etc so this is very helpful to us.

Wahoo................................ think I'd better get busy checking out the sites.

Cheerio....

Thanks

Thank you all for your input. I guess, like all things, that deciding on a place to live is a matter of personal taste. I'm sure, that after renting for a while, we'll decide upon the area that best suits us and our needs. Actually considering Brisbane aswell now as the aircraft industry is quite prominent up there and Redcliffe looks beautiful.

Thanks once again

Hi
We love Highbury. Been here nearly four years now and it's ideally located in my view - easy to get to the O-Bahn and into the City, 30 minutes or so to Edinburgh Park for work opportunities, Tea Tree Plaza for the shops just up the road, excellent chioce of schools, both primary and high, Barossa Valley an easy drive for a day wine-tasting with visitors, the magnificent Torrens Linear Park for walking, cycling, picnicking, you name it, beaches within about half hour drive, wonderful friendly people. House prices do vary a lot just within this suburb, you will find you will be paying more for houses on the south side of Lower North East Road, and also for anything within easy reach of Linear Park, but they do seem to have levelled out a bit recently as have house prices generally in Adelaide - people who have to sell for one reason or another are even dropping prices, so worth a look around.
Anything else I can help with, just ask! Always happy to help out with others who see the attraction of the lovely North East!
