Beach Suburbs

Hi, this is our first posting, so be gentle...

We have just completed our medicals and will be looking to move out to Adelaide in the New Year.

Can you advise on the best beach suburbs, we are a young family with 2 kids under 3 and I'll be looking to get work in central Adelaide, I'm not bothered about the commute as long as it isn't over an hour.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Hiya

With an hour's commute you have a lot to choose from.
Say down to Seaford,Moana,Port Noarlunga and Aldinga.
Hallett Cove is popular as well but prices are higher there.
It will depend upon your budget and I'd consider walking distance to the beach at most.Seafront and a few streets back are fetching premium prices.

I'm not advocating the South - just saying it is more affordable.

Also look at Seacliff,and Brighton.

BTW - Welcome.

It's really best to have a look when you arrive.

Cheers

Hi, We visited Glenelg beach and it was beautiful!!! There was ladies VolleyBall tournament going on at part of the beach, which was fun to watch. Glenelg also had an Indoor Play centre and Water slide place which was fairly expensive but I guess your kids would love it!
We took a trip to Swim with the Dolphins at Glenelg too a company called Temptation Sailing.

Good Luck with your plans !

G:day, G:day

Just dragged my sorry &&%^ out of semi-retirement to add a little reply here. The sad part is that I just don't have the time anymore to join in the great banter on this great site; sorry. Just wanted to say a couple of things before I get onto the helpful bit, well as helpful as my tin butt can muster. Tyke my hubbie told me about the other stuff I just wanted to say keep your chin up. Also Lazy Cow if you are reading this you still smell and black and white is sooooo last year.

Right now I have got that out of my system...

The suburbs to the West are nice as well although since we moved that way some would say that the area has gone down-market, but my skin is made of tin so I can live with that. I am suggesting: West-lakes, Semaphore, Largs, North Haven, Osbourne or even a bit further from the beach and heading North is the new rising area of Mawson Lakes (recently slagged off in the press for using too much electricity! But that's another story). Some parts of these areas are expensive but you can still find some reasonably priced homes.

Right time to go back to my rust-tarnished life.

Mrs TinB
PS: We need rain, please can someone do a rain dance as my freakish attempts are not working and I am just finding myself scaring the neighbours!

North from Hallett Cove........

Hallett Cove,
Marino,
Seacliff,
Brighton,
Hove, (yes, Brighton is next to Hove in Adelaide too )
Somerton Park,
Glenelg South,
Glenelg,
West Beach,
Henley Beach,
Grange
Tennyson
Semaphore
etc etc

Note that these have become very expensive in the last few years - the locals expats have finally worked out the value of the proximity to the beach.

As a result, you may consider suburbs further inland - 10 -15 mins drive to the beach isn't that bad

If you have an idea of budget (in pounds) I can help more.

I am an Adelaide native currently in SW11

PM me if you like.

Sorry to read you won't have much time to post TB,I love your verbal fencing with LC.

Our chins are ups thanks - just working on my hangover this morning, we have a good bunch of Aussie mates who encourage my alcohol consumption

Praying for the rain here too - the olive grove is well in flower this year, need plenty of rain to set the fruit though.

Good job our neighbours can't see us

Thanks for the advice everyone - I'll have a look into the areas you have said.

Still early days, so I may have a few questions looking for more details.
