It does come in waves or sometimes just creeps up on you.
At least the weather is good at the moment here in Adelaide.

To really settle it takes a couple of years - but it gets easier I promise!

I have one girlfriend from my home town here which is nice..used to having loads of friends though!!! :(
I find it the same, having come over here by myself, it is hard to make friends. I've even joined dance classes, a gym etc, but have not really made friends there, more acquaintences. Similar with work as well, I have got to the point though where I have plans most weekends which has changed dramatically since I got here 6 months ago, but none with what I would call real friends. I guess bear with it. Are you living in Adelaide? I'm in Sydney.
PS. Leanne, what have you heard about OH's bbqing skills....?

Would that be the OH who's BBQ skills are so professional that he is think of leaving his job and writing a book entitled " Getting drunk and burning stuff in your back yard " the follow up to his last best selling books "Which part of my Harley did this bolt fall off ?" and " is there any beer left ?".
I for my part have found Adelaide a very friendly place and have made some good friends and have only ever meet one person who took a real dislike to me, A policeman from England.
