I've seen the spectacular pics of the 'blue lake' and the surrounding area but there is little info on the area itself.
With it being on the border of Victoria/South Australia it kind of gets overlooked.
I'd love to move to a place like this but I have to be practical when it comes to work.
Is there an electrician here? - maybe I could be the first and have the monopoly on the area!!!
We've considered it, if you google it there a sort of local council website. Property looks resonable and its coastal, the website boasts lovely beaches. I know what you mean about work, but as far as I'm aware Mount Gambier is a city, so work shouldn't be a major problem.

If you look on google earth it doesn't look that big - maybe you get a false perspective of size with it???
It does look like one hell of a place!!! - The lakes are just amazing and obviously the surrounding areas are pretty good too!!!
we also liked the look of this area to start with as we saw some nice cheap houses in millicent, but i was also worried about hubby finding work as brickie because as you say you dont hear so much about this area most people head adelaide way. also wondered as its in line with victoria if it had similar weather to melbourne, because one of the reasons we chose sa over victoria was because it was a bit warmer. i know its a long way from adelaide but i may still have a look when we get there just incase.

I've not actually visited Mt Gambier yet but just driven by it.
The local opinion of it seems to be a" poor country cousin" to Adelaide.
A lot of trades people and skilled workers seem to be sent down there from Adelaide to do jobs.

Mt Gambier is a lovely little town, house prices very good. Our daughter has a butchers apprenticeship there, seems to be all the facilities you would need - shops, medical etc. Only reason we wouldnt go there is its too cold for us, sometimes in winter it doesnt get over 10 -12 degrees in the daytime! And rarely over 35 in summer. More rain than the rest of sa too.
Leeds hasn't been too bad last week or so - quite warm and sunny (still overcast today)
Pudsey - there's worse places to leave in Leeds (I'm in Belle Isle)
I was in Mount Gambier some months back and the weather was wonderful. The cobalt blue lake has to be seen in summer as it changes colour in winter, the town gets its water supply from it, the lake next to it is always a green/grey colour, they are both in extinct volcanoes, they dont really know why its so blue but I had to go back a few times to look again, the blue lake is at the top end of town a 5 minute drive. The town is clean and tidy and the RSL club does great low cost meals, just show your passport to get in. The people there are nice and they sent us to see the beach a 20 minute drive... wonderful and if you drive to the right when you get there you come to a rocky headland which juts out into the sea with good views back towards the beach and penguins can be seen. Distances are vast in Oz so we took a backpackers airpass with REX airlines £200 for a month and fly to as many places as you like... and we did its a bargain, arranged through holiday autos for a car hire at each airport allow £25 a day and a decent hotel for £25 per person per night.
